The Lake House (Remake of Siworae/Il Mare)

I haven't seen the film yet... But I think I have the answer given how it seems to be pretty close to "Il Mare" and this was the part I was worrying about most of all; that it wouldn't retain this cerebral element and somehow "dumb it down" for U.S. audiences:

[sp]Basically, the whole gyst of the film is it centers on what is called infinite multi-verses. That is, for every decision we make there is an alternate universe where that decision actually plays out into infinity.

For example, if we come to a fork in the road on Oct. 10, 2004, and decide to go right... Then an alternate universe is created on that same date where we actually go left and all the consequences from that decision play out and spawn more infinite alternative realities as time goes on...2006, 2007, 2008, etc. All the way up to and beyond the point we die considering we might not ever "die" since the alternative is we might live past the one date we die in "our" reality/timeline -- At least until we get so old we finally die of old age.

Kate finally figured this whole concept out and is why she tried to warn him. However, the warning applies to the Alex in HIS (Alex) reality and not the Alex in HER (Kate) world/reality and hence, why he dies in HIS reality. This is how and why they can get together in the end because Alex is still alive in her reality... At the present time... But they just don't know each other because they've never run into each other in her or corresponded in (Kate's) reality before...

At least, this is how the original Il Mare resolved the incongruences and gave it both a believable and happy ending given the theory of infinite multiverses they set up[/sp]

NOTE: As stated, I have not seen the film, so this explanation may be completely off. I intend to see the film soon and will comment on the core concept more once I have a firm grasp of how much of it they used compared to the original film.

I cannot wait for this movie to come out!!!I really love Sandra and I think that she and Keanu are great together!!!!!

You and me both. I got the wallpaper and icons. My livejournal even has the layout devoted to it. lol This movie has been on the top of my must see list, as short as that list is, for almost a year now. Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves were great in speed. Hopefully they can recapture some of that chemistry in this movie. Plus I'm a big sucker for angsty love stories so I'll be watching this one on opening day.

^ I'm with you. I saw this movie yesterday and I'm in love. ;) Sandra was just amazing. I love how she portrayed her character. Her reaction was heartbreaking... And I want to watch it again.

Oh, I'll make it even worst Nora: when you have seen the movie, tell me which scene reminded you to certain scene of D/J in S6 :D I think that's why it is my fave scene :sigh:

(Yeah, mean is my middle name  )

I saw this movie last month. I liked it, but the thing is I got confused.
I wanna know how they are living 2 years apart and how they got together in the end. :(

I am looking forward to this movie so much that my wallpaper on my computer is that very picture. :)

I love Sandra and Keanu, and I think they have great chemistry together.
Keanu is so under rated sometimes.

I watched it! :D

[sp]I thought it was excellent! :sigh: I absolutely loved the little twists and turns and the way the movie just kinda came together like a puzzle the longer you watched it.

The part that got me the most was the moment where Kate realizes that it was Alex who died in her arms. That was so good and so....ugh...'heartbreaking' isn't even the proper word to describe that scene. Then when you see Alex looking at her from across the street while the bus approaches and you hear her voice over, begging him to wait and that she loves him....god, that killed me and it had me at the edge of my seat - and I *KNEW* they would get together in the end! But still.

From the way it was approached, the movie reminded me a lot of "Just like heaven" with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. Just the way that everything made sense later on and that it's obvious that some higher power wanted them to be together.

And btw, that kiss at the end... :thud: HOT!

Sandy and Keanu were so good in this movie. When Alex started crying after his father's death....or Kate started crying by the mail box.... Wow.

Another scene that sent shivers down my spine was the one where Jack, the dog, runs away and Alex finds him at Morgan's house. When Alex and Morgan met, I dunno...that was so chilling. It was just like, "Wow, this is really meant to be..."

I have so much more to say, but I'm tired. :D[/sp]

Not to get to spoilery...

But the original film "Il Mare" and this one deal with the theory/concept of infinite multi-verses.

This is the part I am hesitant the film will explain cleary enough for audiences to really grasp. It is a simple enough concept -- That I can't go into complete detail as it will spoil some of the surprise(s) -- But the way "Il Mare" uses it to tell the story and how it determines how the story ends is where I fear many people may have a hard time understanding the theory unless it is made absolutely clear what is going on, to who(m) and when.

If it can do this as well as the original film... Which was harder for native English speakers since it is a Korean film... Then I gurantee you this film will have people talking for quite some time and it will also appeal to non-romance fans as well.

Really a great movie. I don't know if I'm just a sci-fi junkie or what but what really made me love this movie even more is because it really gets the mind thinking about alternate realities and that sort of thing since in...

[sp]Kates time it was 2006 and in Alexs' time it was 2004. And then two years passed and it was 2008 in Kates time and 2006 in Alex's time. And then they finally meet up in 2008.[/sp]

It's kind of all confusing but very interesting nontheless.

Loved the interview! :rotfl:

Nora, loved the Speed icons! Gorgeous! :glow:

Oh, I don't even know when they'll release the movie here. I searched around some movie theaters' websites, but got nothing so far! :pout:

Love special K!! Love sandra!! the movie sounds great as well but having these to back together in a movie is the best of all.

it sounds like its a movie that will make you think and these are the movies that keep you coming back for more.

keanu should make this movie work! but it sounds like it should be a good movie anyway

i work for warner brothers (who made the picture) and on thursday night (6/15/06) they had a free screening on the main lot for all of their employees. the movie was excellent. i cried in a couple of spots. not to give anything away but there's this one scene where Sandy's in a meeting near the end of the movie and she's given some information. her reaction was oscarworthy. the emotions that went across her face were some of the most convincing acting that i have ever seen. i seriously doubt she would even get a nomination because most people write off her acting and movies as fluff.

it is so worth spending money to see this again in the actual theaters tomorrow.

This movie looks so good. The preview was extremely intriguing, but I was a little disappointed because its almost like they told most of the plot in the promo. But we'll see!
