I just got back from seeing the movie. I wrote my thoughts about the film at my LJ. I'm too lazy start from scratch so I'm cutting and pasting.
[sp]In the beginning of the film, a man gets hit by a bus. I figured that it was Keanu's character right off the bat, which kind of took away some of the suspense during later scenes.[/sp]
The movie dragged a bit at certain times. There seemed to be too many instances where the characters would have long pauses during their dialogue or just have conversations that neither entertained or furthered the plot. The drama with Alex and his father was a bit on the uninteresting side as well. I didn't care about what was going on between them, although it did lead to a great scene where [sp]Kate sends Alex a book his father had published before he died and Alex breaks down.[/sp]
The secondary characters were just awful. The actor playing Alex's brother was SO bad. Kate's Mom and co-worker weren't any better. They were too similar. I think that hurt the movie a little bit because Kate and Alex spend so little time together on screen.
Not to be all negative, the movie did have some bright spots. Like the dog, Jack, she was so cute in the movie. I loved the scenes when the dog was interacting with Sandra Bullock's character. Kate would say things to the dog and it actually seemed like it was paying attention and understood. There was one scene where[sp] they were playing chess that was cute.[/sp]
I was happy to see that Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves still got the chemistry. Thank goodness! They made me believe that they cared for each other. SB did a great job of showing her confusion and made her falling in love with Alex believable. I'm a little less enthusiastic about KR's performance. It was a bit lacking, but still not bad. That could be my Sandy bias talking though because I love her more than Keanu.
[sp]The scene at the end, which I knew was going to be my favorite, where she goes to the mailbox to warn Alex about the bus and she just cries out of fear that it didn't get to him in time was awesome! I also loved how when Alex finally did show up he didn't say a word he just kept kissing her.

All in all, I thought the movie was good, but I wouldn't say it was great. It was a nice love story and although it went a little too slowly at times, the payoff in the end made it all worth it.
