The Karate Kid Movies

Who here used to love the karate kid movies? Watching it on Living these past few weeks (all parts shown) bought back some good memories.

Wiki states that a fourth film is being planned, with new actors? If its true I really hope that they dont, as it'll totally spoil the first 3 original movies..

There is a 4th movie (3rd sequel) called The Next Karate Kid,starring a young Hilary Swank.

A remake is coming out this summer starring Jackie Chan and Will Smith's son. It's mostly set in China.

I don't mind, the original wasn't high art even though it was a modern classic.

The first one was class and a well loved film in its day, but the quality deteriorated as the series went on, although 3 was better than 2. Best to leave us with memories of wax on, wax off, etc.

The first film was a huge success, perhaps more than was expected, and is still referenced widely today what with its "wax on wax off" and the fact that people swear by the fact that a well executed "crane technique" can deal with virtually anything.
It was given a 15 certificate here and to a certain degree doesnt know which audience its aiming for. Its bright, breezy, has fantastic and infectious music interwoven and in many ways a first rate family film. There is one scene though where Daniel takes a quite brutal beating, which I presume is where it gets the 15. This scene doesnt fit to me and has been taken out of tv screenings. My only gripe is the fact that it is 15 minutes too long.

The first screening on ITV here drew 14.5 million viewers iirc.

nah but her body was very much in shape and the babies were poking through the t-shirts she wore

i rememer her tiger move when she nearly gets run over by a car, that was cool

and when the monks help her train when she is blindfolded

she could kick boy karate kiRAB arse no doubt

I miss elisabeth shue though, now SHE is a fine specimen of a woman

I loved the first 3 Karate Kid films, the first 2 probably the most. After the 3rd film they should have ended the series there and then, as the films seemed to flop after the original characters/actors quit the series.
