The first pictures from the remake of the 1969 classic "The Italian Job" have started to hit the net.

Is the film industry following the record industry, by recycling old material, it seems that most of the songs these days are covers. It looks like we are getting to the same stage with movies:

Psyco
Oceans Eleven
The Thomas Crown Affair
Planet of the Apes
and now The Italian Job

Personally, I don't think any of them come close to their originals (obviously not TIJ, cos its not been made yet)
 
I read that Ed Norton has been banned by the studio from discussing the film with the media.

Why? Because he made it as a contractual obligation and has told frienRAB that it is a turkey.
 
Yep. The LA job. How can you make a film based in Italy, with Italy in the title of the film without being in Italy.

And Noel Coward and Benny Hill aren't in it. Its sacrilege.

And they do use the new Mini in the film, but its true that is the Old Mini in that picture. I'm guessing they'll have some lame way of showing how the car has evolved into the new car, as one huge Mini/BMW trailer.

At one point they were discussing with VW about using the new Beetle !!!!

The one good thing, is one of the terrestrial channels will broadcast the original as this is about to come out, they always do with remakes :D
 
The original is probably one of my top five favourite films and this remake looks like it is going to be just awful. The fact that it's set in LA but STILL called The Italian Job alone is ridiculous.

Why is money being wasted on remakes of films that were classics and of their time (and therefore impossible to reproduce in the modern day), and not on making original and interesting films that the next generation may consider to be 'classic'?

In fact, I know that the answer (as always) is probably, money.
 
I'm not even going to watch it when it comes out.............

The original was so good how on earth can they expect to make it better??

Why do they always ruin a good film by doing a crappy remake?

Example: Get Carter!!!

What the hell was Sly Stallone doing wrecking an excellent classic.
And now the Italian Job.. in LA??

An interview with Michael Deeley, producer of the Italian Job will appear in BBC2's forthcoming major new documentary series called 'Car Junkies'.

The three one hour programmes will begin their weekly run on Sunday 16th February at 8pm.

No, they only sell the new minis. When BMW dumped the Rover group, whoever took it on had the rights to the old mini (which they were still making IIRC), but BMW kept the rights to the new mini.

You're right, it does look crap - why LA? In fact why try to remake such a classic film at all? There's no way it can ever be as good as the original!!!
