Hello Healthboards!
After a long, and semi-grueling ordeal that I am still dealing with, I have come to forums to seek advice from those that MAY have experienced this in the past in hopes I can get some advice in to finding out what may be wrong.

I apologize in advance, this post might be a little bit long as I explain the fullness of the situation, before asking for advice I figure it's best to know what's happened thus far.

about 1 year ago I found a lump underneath my skin, just near the base of my vagina but slightly off to the side, it was hard and painful. They tried to tell me it was a Sebacious Cyst but in the end, it wasn't. When it didn't go away, I ahd them cut it out... thought all was well, my doctor stitched me up and i was good go and extremely relieved. Once the stitches healed and disintegrated, i noticed a bubble start forming on the scar... it was clear, and had a number of about 8 tiny red dots with a larger red dot in the middle. It would constantly leak clear fluid at all times, and occasional become inflamed and then burst out with a brown milky substance.

Worried, I went back to my doctor, and was scheduled to go see a general surgeon who diagnosed it as an Anal Fistula. They "cauterized" it on the inside, and cut about a 6 inch line along the inside of my thigh cutting out this strange location COMPLETELy and about half an inch deep into the flesh to get rid of any infected tissues.

During the healing process of 6 weeks, it kept leaking a very foul, embarassing odor that can't be described. IT would CONSTANTLY leak the brown fluid that came out before. Once it healed up, finally, that SAME bubble came back in the SAME spot

I went back to the surgeon and he calimed it was over granulation of the tissue and burnt it off with Silver NItrate, which didn't help as I also have issues healing and the scab didn't take and just caused me to bleed profusely later that night causing an emergency room trip due to the ammount of blood that was coming out.

now here I sit, with the previous two surgery scars fully healed except this annoying bubble that still oozes and leaks the same as it has, i'm frustrated, it's taken a huge impact on my relationship as i refuse to have intercourse while it's there as it's INCREDIBLY painful.

Roughly around a year ago as well I had a pap done and they claimed to find bacteria growing on my cervix, i was tested and came back with a clean record so it wasn't an STI.

i'm fed up with getting yanked around by the doctors as they don't seem to be pinpointing what's going on and frankly i don't want my vagina cut open anymore for 'test theories'

Has anyone else had experience with any kind of cyst like this in that area?
Is it possible that due to the bacterial growth noticed on my cervix that i MAY Have an ovarian cyst that has... gone off on it's own in that area and that could be causing the issues?

IF anyone has ever encountered something like this, or might have any advice as to what it may be so that I can take the information to my doctors and have them check it out further, I would be greatly appreciated.

This has been a nuisance in my life and I am coming to the health boards now pleading for help figuring out this issue.

Thank you so much for reading

Well it would not be an ovarian cyst by the location of the area affected...did they do pathology tests on the fluid or tissue?..Not to alarm you, but growths that ooze brown discharge can be a sign of cancer:confused::(....and are known for the foul odour..but fissures do the same thing..just think about it..these are tears from your digestive tract that make there way to your outside....the bacteria..and excrement..are not rose smelling...so yeah it would be foul smelling...since your still healing, the healing process can have a foul smell also..so all these scenerios can cause your side effects...if still in doubt don't hesitate to hound your doctor..since this is your body and your health!:-)Good luck with it all:-)

TY for the response! :)
I was worried about cancer too, but they did remove a cyst.. it was about the size of a marble so not TOOO too big.
and i requested to see it almost as a way to say "okay phew it's gone"
but.. SURPRISE! LOL, the foul smell only happened after the last major surgery that was done, the huge 6 inch cut takign out all infected tissue from waht they said at the time was an anal fistula.
is it possible that maybe the cauterization didn't take and it's just the fissure re-opening that would cause the bubble to come back? Dear god i hope not i don't want to go through that again

When it oozes brown stuff now, it has no odor at all, neither does the liquid. The only time it smelled strange was during the healing process which i could almost understand.

Cervical Cancer is very common in my family and that's what i'm worried about regarding the bacteria on my cervix now. I'm hoping that it's nothing major...

Thanks again for the reply, any other advice is definately welcome, i'm goign to start hounding my doctor tomorrow morning. Might have to get a little bit more .. mean... :(

Hello Septura,

What you have is definitely not an ovarian cyst. Ovarian cysts don't break off and travel like that.

If I were in your shoes I would strongly suspect an infection. Oozing fluid and a bad odour seems to point to this. Has anyone recommended antibiotics to try to help with this ? Your problem is where the surgical work has been done. It is very difficult to keep this area dry and bacteria love moisture ... so if you have cuts or an injury (ie from the surgeries) that is trying to heal then it will take quite a while. Definitely keep the area as clean as possible and as difficult as it is, as "aired out" as possible (to inhibit bacterial growth). You may want to try wet wipes that are developed especially for hemmorrhoids when you use the bathroom. This way you will be sure to remove all fecal bacteria from the area. Then use a good bathroom tissue to dry (something that does not leave little pieces that can pick up more bacteria ... Charmin is a good brand for that).

I would definitely return to the doctor and see if anything can be done. An infection, if this is what it is, is nothing to fool around with. The "cyst" would have to drained, cleaned and dressed on a regular basis until the area heals.

As to the bacterial growth on your cervix, did they tell you what kind of bacteria and if you should do anything about it ? Could what they saw be a virus rather than a bacteria ? ... say HPV and if so what strain ? Some strains are high risk for cervical cancer and others are not. You need more information. That's not to say that you have cervical cancer but if you are at a higher risk, you need to have a closer eye kept on things.

In the meantime, try a good probiotic. Probiotics are known to help proliferate healthy bacteria in the vaginal tract. These bacteria will help fight off any harmful bacteria that are making things difficult for you. I personally like a good Kefir, a type of fermented milk that has a lot of friendly bacteria. This is especially true if you are put on antibiotics. This way you will kill off the harmful bacteria and help to keep the healthy bacteria around (antibiotics are notorious for killing all bacteria .. they are nevertheless necessary in certain situations and can save lives).

Hang in there and see your doctor again. Don't be afraid to be a pain in the you know what. Perhaps this way they will finally get it and find a way to take care of the problem.

All the best for a speedy recovery.

Hi Septura,

Yes when you said that you were oozing brown fluid, I did think about a fistula but I would have thought that the surgeon would be able to see such a thing when he last investigated. Usually this type of thing occurs due to prolonged childbirth, however, these things can be caused by other types of trauma, such as your surgery, for example.

Definitely having someone who specializes in this check it out would be your best option. Perhaps another surgeon (not the one you are having problems with) or a gastroenterologist (they deal with fistulas and fissures normally due to Chron's disease). I am not sure that you general practitioner will be able to deal with this but you may try and then get a referral.

Either way, fistula or infection, you need to be seen and the problem needs to be taken care of immediately. I sincerely hope that you get some help very soon. All the best to you.

Take care.

They never said itwas HPV they tried testing it but claimed there wasn't enough there to do much with, but stated the fact it was THERE and i'd have to go back for repeat tests to make sure it doesn't spread. Since i am very notorious for getting virus's of ANY kind

I actually did some more research by myself last night after posting on these forums and i've landed on the possibility of a Rectovaginal Fissure, and I feel EXTREMELY Strongly that this is what it is because of it's location, being so close in between.

Im starting to think that they only figured it was rectal, and either missed something entirely... or due to the fact my body doesn't heal right that the fissure itself re-opened.

I'm tapdancing on both of those right now but i'm going to be giving her a call and breaking out the "tough guy help me" routine LOL

Thank you so much :)
I actually was reading up a bit more about Rectovaginal Fistula's as I mentioned in another post, and it can apparently be caused by IBS (Along with other kinds of fistulas) and I have IBS extremely bad as well as Celiac... After my surgery, My stools weren't solid and i wasn't given any fiber or anything nor told to be on any high fiber + Stool softener diet, i think that i might have strained the muscle and re-oppened the fissure because of this... it's almost like i'm trying to pinpoint what could have gone wrong and this makes alot of sense after reading up on this.

DEFINATELY not looking forward toa second dose of the surgery, thank you guys so much so far for your advice and well wishes :) They mean alot, this really has been a pain in my ... well you know
