The ice storm...

For those of you who deal with -50 weather and ice. Laugh.

Up here, it is very unusual weather. Work has been an issue, getting to it I mean. My car is decent, front wheel drive, but we don't have the snow cables for the tires, because it's only been an issue once in a blue moon.

Well...... the last two days have been busier than usual for me. I've been stuck at home but made it out, fucking barely, the first night. This second night my car tires were frozen to the ground in a field down at the end of my block because the drive up to my house was covered in no less than 3 inches of solid ice, and then there's the frozen snow and slush. So I have that worry about the car, not the best neighborhood. I hope for the best.

So I call in and ask my boss, who I know has picked up plenty of people over the years for the same thing, to see if he wouldn't mind driving down with his 4-wheel drive with chains Jeep to get me. Little did I know that he had just gotten back from picking someone up, and that he was pissed about something.

So he says "So you're saying you can't get to work? Call a friend, call a cab, whatever."

I say that I was calling in 7 hours early to say that I might have trouble getting into work. He hands the phone over to the office bitch. She tells me that if I can make it in, they'll let me stay for free.

I say fine, thanks and hang up.

I called my friend B and she comes and takes me, and it was still 5 hours before my shift. I give her some cash and head in, get my room, then nightie night for a while. I haven't slept much in the last 48 hours, for fucking sure, between stress and work.

Work is extremely busy compared to normal as the storm brought PG&E crews staying her in droves. So I've been actually having to work for a change, while getting no sleep, and dealing with the weather, and my wife hasn't worked in days because of it, so we're hurting financially.

Well the office Bitch, who I have a cease fire agreement always pending peace treaty with, tells me that the owner was pissed off about a lot in general, and based on some things he said, none of us should feel too comfortable in our jobs.

I could describe for pages about why I come to this conclusion but tl;dr for sure, so here. But considering the economic situation in this county, which was hit harder than many places in the US, for real, I would be fucked and fucked and fucked if I lost my job.

I do my job, I make it to my job, I don't call in sick to my job, I have always helped out and saved this place a few times single handedly, and now I gotta worry? Gimme a break.

If it happens folks I'll lose my connection to the 'net in a hurry. Then trying to find a job? Awesome. If I suddenly vanish, I'm either looking for work, or dead. In either case, I'll be back. heh. :D

JLXC: we got about 5" of wet HEAVY snow last night.. it is Rain right now.. TONIGHT: bitter FUCKING COLD!!! it's gonna be a FUCKING NIGHTMARE tomorrow..:happysad::thumbsdn:

It's currently 25 degrees here and the grass was frozen solid when I went to town a bit ago.

If you do lose your job, I hope you are able to file for unemployment. You shouldn't lose your job because you can't get your car on the road due to ice. Dying to keep a job, that's just not even worth it. My employers aren't that much of shit heads thankfully. They just cut my hours right before the holidays is all. They just love me.

Are you in a position to speak with the owner directly about your performance? If so, I would tell him what she said and I would also tell him that she didn't give you any specific feedback so you're unsure about what to change.

I wouldn't go to him in a tattle-tale kind of way but just say something like, "Hey, Office Bitch said you were upset with how the business was being handled but she didn't tell me what should be improved."

Office Bitch is obviously a cunt and a shitty manager to even threaten you with your job like that, especially without providing you with the needed feedback to help resolve whatever issues the owner is having with how the business is being run.

In any case, no one is really going to think twice about her car going off the side off the road one of these icy nights. Maybe off the side of a high, steep embankment. "Accidents" happen.

First I read this....

Followed up with this.....

Anybody else see the irony here? If you're actually having "to work for a change" sounds to me like your position is expendable, especially in today's economy. No offense, but it is how it is. I wish ya the best, and hopefullly they'll shitcan someone a bit lower on the totem pole before you....but if I were you..I would be working my ass off all the fucking time, and consistently volunteer to do extra work.

Thanks folks! I think the office bitch's job is in danger, not mine. heh. I made it to work no problem tonight, so it's all good, no more ice storms on the front.

Thekid, this is a 24 hour place, SOMEONE has to be here. I'm the best guy they've had, their words, and to be fair, they're lucky to have me. I'm working well below my ability so that I can have it easy, yep. They know it. Sometimes there's not a lot to do around here, which is how I like it. But unless they close the hotel they need someone to do it so the job isn't in danger. Apparently my job isn't in danger either.

So I am just hoping for things to get back to normal. heh. Whatever that is. :p
