The Hurt Locker

Caught this at the Showcase Bluewater last night. A wonderfully shot film, decent plot, well filmed, acted brilliantly (particularly Jeremy Renner) - not convinced it has much rewatch value, but it has the feel of an Academy Award nomination at least.

I'd really recommend seeing it if you get a chance.

saw it this week and thought it was excellent. was similar in tone to the recent BBC drama occupation, but a bit more focused on the job at hand in Iraq, rather than using it as a backdrop to any narrative as such.

what i thought came across very well was that it was just about the situation, rather than who the good guys were, and who the bad guys were.

so we could see it from both perspectives - the soldiers who were just doing their job, and trying to keep the peace, and from the Iraqis eyes who viewed them with distrust.

and the idea that really, a lot of the tension was down to fear, mistrust language barriers and cultural differences.

Saw this last weekend after seeing so many rave reviews about it. Whilst I enjoyed it and it was well shot, I did find it a bit slow and didn't quite understand all the hype. Worth a watch though

I've watched about half of it (or rather 72mins) - I thought it was boring, slow - though I got excited when I saw Guy Pearce - that was short lived...

i assume the pace was deliberate to capture the way time must have felt for soldiers in Iraq.

so at the end, after sitting through the last 38 days of one rotation, seeing a new rotation start again at 365 days rams home how long they were there for at a time, and how that time must have dragged

I watched the film last week and loved it

can see it being one of those films that sticks with you long after watching it

Haven't seen it but was surprised by Mark Kermode's lack of enthusiasm in his 5 Live review yesterday. He kept saying how macho it was. Mind you he didn't seem to understand (500) Days of Summer either.

Hi fella,

I wouldn't let what MC says it a really good film

Think it all depenRAB on what kind of films you like, if you like 'there will be blood' you might like this as it's more a 'character study' or documentary

Interestingly when I was in the cinema, I saw a lot of parents with teenage sons watching so I took it that parents wanted their kiRAB to know what is going on, or possibly there kiRAB were thinking about joining up and it's as good a film you will see to give you some insight into what possibly goes on over there.

Saw this up my local Odeon last night and thought it was a good non-political account of the war in Iraq from the troops perspective. The first half of the movie had a gripping blend of tension and humour but it kind of tailed off towarRAB the end for me so 7/10

If you really want to see what life is like on the front line in Iraq I highly recommend the excellent HBO series Generation Kill which starts on Channel 4 tonight ;)
