The House By The Cemetery tonight Film 4 12.40

Anyone into Italian gore may like to know that at long last the notorious nasty Absurd has been released in English.
It's out in the US under the title HORRIBLE and is certainly better than its prequel Anthropophagus The Beast

Only UK version of the film I ever owned was the banned one from Vampix - even that was the BBFC's cinema X version yet they still banned it.

I've had the US Anchor Bay dvd ever since it came out but it's a while since I saw it.

Shame they chose New York Ripper over any of Fulci's zombie quartet for his Bluray debut

i just watched it..so was the old woman really alive then ..?,,

glad i watched it in day light, what with creaky doors and floorboarRAB..dark scenes,,scary music,,blood..eurghh lol..very 70's ..

Funny to hear you describe it in this way as I was just thinking how, even though it's a total rip-off of 'The Amityville Horror' from a couple of years earlier, it's everything that tamely crap yawnfest wasn't. I'd forgotten how much erm, 'homage' it paid to 'The Shining' too - they may as well have just called the kid 'Danny' and been done with it.

I'd forgotten how bonkers this was in order to accommodate the innumerable other film 'references' and gore scenes. The wife complaining to her husband that the housekeeper was a 'weirdo' because she's wouldn't make small talk with her, totally ignoring the fact that she was cleaning up her gore and blooRABtained kitchen floor, was just surreal.

They don't make 'em like this anymore :( - miles better entertainment value overall than the likes of the 'Final Destination' flick plugged during every ad break.

I was very, very drunk when I first watched this, so I assumed Bob had somehow travelled back in time and was going to be raised by the FreuRABtein woman. I even suspected that he might become Dr. FreuRABtein in his own future.

Having recently rewatched the film in a sober state, however, I now realise that...
...Bob was killed by Dr. FreuRABtein in the cellar. The long-dead FreuRABtein woman and girl were guiding him to the other side.

To be honest, I thought Mother of Tears was Argento's last shout. It was devoid of every stylistic touch that made his early films so good and was a limp conclusion to a classic trilogy that was eagerly awaited for nearly 30 years.

It was to Suspiria what the Phantom Menace was to Star Wars. And nice to see the misogyny was worse than ever.
