The Hobbit

Anyone heard anything about the film? I can't wait!

Just watched a video with Guillermo del Toro, who is directing it - interview.

Still a couple of years away yet but the countdown is on...It's being filmed in New Zealand and Peter Jackson from Lord of the Rings is exec-producing - all the ingredients for a classic I'd say...

Anyone else heard anything about it?

It's gonna be better than LOTR IMO. Yes Peter Jackson did a great job but I think the whole crew will have learnt a lot since then and with the brilliance of del Toro injected into the whole thing we've got something really special to look forward to.

Just imagining how del Toro will deal with stuff like Smaug, Beorn and the Mirkwood spiders gives me goosebumps. Then we've got the huge battles and confrontations that they're gonna do, some of them not included in The Hobbit book itself. We could see Gandalf imprisoned in Sauron's dungeons and the full power of the White Council, Saruman before he became corrupt (though I'm sure they will show the first inklings of that betrayal).

Im sure there are more talented Twins who could play them
im also pretty sure in the book Filli and killi are clean shaven as well due to being very young dwarves,so the pic in the newspaper with jedward being bearded is just stupid.

yes I have heard of the movie

it is only coming out 2010 and 2011 right? There was 4 page article in one of the scifi or movie magazines. It will come in too parts and I cant wait for it. It will just a good as lord of the rings.

Was interested to read Jackson's comments about the casting process. He said that with the exception of Gandalf (SIM) all other roles will be cast after auditions.

Firstly I assume that he isn't including Gollum in that as he's not a 'real' role (a tad dissparraging as it's probably the hardest role of all) and only Serkis can take that part, surely.

Secondly, many of the cast from the original LotR films have talked about returning for The Hobbit films over the years. Saruman is likely to appear at some point assuming they depict the White Council / Dol Guldur episode, in which case I seriously hope Christopher Lee returns. He may be just too old now which would be a massive shame. Viggo Mortensen has been quoted as wanting to return to his role and I can easily see Aragorn being shoe-horned in especially around Rivendell.

I guess a few of the old cast could be given cameos outside of the main plot - I think it would be nice as long as it doesn't detract or depart from the book too much.
