The Hobbit Film- Any Information known?

Part 1 is slated for a 2011 release with part 2 in 2012. Peter Jackson is writing both parts and the main force behind it all but Guillermo del Toro will be the director.

Basic plot: Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit, journeys to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarves to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the dragon Smaug.

There isn't that much information available yet as the script has only just been finished bit expect plenty of action this year in New Zealand.

Apparantly Ron Pearlman is rumored for Thorin. Cate Blanchett is the only confirmed actor reprising Galadriel.

It will be interesting to see if Andy Serkis plays Smeagol as a live character like he did very briefly in Return of the King
 
Anyone seen the 1977 TV film adaptation? (Surely the only fully animated TV movie ever made!!) I don't think it was ever shown on British TV or released on home media format here.
 
I've read that despite the issue with MGM they are still loooking to start shooting in the spring/early summer which means we should be getting some casting news soon.
 
I don't think there's any way part 1 will be out for Christmas 2011. At one stage they were gonna start shooting much earlier this year, like March time, but it's been delayed so much for various reasons. They had a full year of post-production on Fellowship of the Ring before it came out so we can expect the same for The Hobbit part 1. It will take a year just to shoot both parts, so expect post-production to start proper mid-2011 for a Christmas 2012 release of part 1, Christmas 2013 part 2.
