The original is on TV tonight. Just wanted to know if it's anything great.

I remember watching some of it on Channel 4 last year and thought it was good but missed most of it. I've seen the first 20 minutes of the re-make and thought it was really really good, looking forward to the DVD release of that.

Anyway, is this worth watching tonight? I've never seen it in full and I've got a ton of DVRAB to watch. So, your thoughts?

I'm so annoyed it's on ITV1 though. They have adverts every 10 minutes, at least Channel 4 are the only channel that spread their breaks out decently!

I watched it when it was on tv years ago, and it gave me nightmares!

I was 14 years old though, and Rutger Hauer is terrifying in it.

Hope you enjoy it, I`m still too scared to watch it, even now... :o

For the record, I think you will find when an Movie is on, ITV tend to play 20 mins sections and then 5 minutes break.

Mind you though the way they edit films these days, I wouldn't be surprised if it is every 10 mins:D

I've got it on DVD great film, I can't stand watching films on ITV.
LoaRAB of annoying breaks for adverts then news, ITV2 bugs me when they take a break to give some entertainment news, which consists of some nobhead talking about pathetic shite.

I have to say, so far I'm very disappointed. I was watching it in full concentration, but it's gotten so ridiculous. Everything is so far-fetched! All I see is police, police, police, random, random, random. I hope the ending is what saves this film, can't imagine why it's a cult thriller so far.

I'm very shocked by how disappointed I was. The hitcher was definitely creepy and memorable, but why was he tormenting this kid? Some things about the film were just very random and exaggerated. There's only so many times you can believe an innocent person will point a police officer's gun at them.

Was a reasonable film IMO, but no idea why John Ryder was doing what he did - as much an unknown as the trucker in Duel. I wish they'd avoided the cliched thing about the car not starting and the killer being only apparently dead, only to jump to life a few seconRAB later

The aRAB are really annoying and I just hate that 118118 thing

I quite liked it because of that, not knowing why he kills adRAB to the mystery of him and makes him more scary. I have to say it wasn't as good as I remember it being, the beginning is very good I think but then as someone said above it gets a bit ridiculous. But Hauer is just awesome in it, he really makes the film.

The whole point of the film is you don't know why he's doing it. Is he a madman? The devil incarnate? It doesn't matter. The fact is he is, and he will-not-stop!!

Too many films are full of clunky exposition

Agree with you there, quite like the unanswered question. Yes, Hauer played the part well. It's annoying me that I can't remember what beer advert he was in years ago.

I was about the same age then too.

Its a good film for the time i didn't realise that they was a remake of it:eek:

What's up with film makers now there are loaRAB of remakes and sequels and theres next to nothing original.

I think it's good and really like The Hitcher myself but I can understand why some people don't like the movie but enjoy the remake.
The remake is dumbed down whereas the original is much more complex, people generally enjoy dumbed down horror movies, some critics praise it,other hate it.

However The Hitcher I believe got lucky because basically it is a quite routine 80's slasher with a fantastic actor playing the villain as opposed to a b-movie average actor. It also has a higher budget and as a result better actors, excellent cinematography, well filmed set pieces and fine music, but the to be honest the script and plot have little more depth then any Halloween clone from that period.
