The Haunting in Connecticut.

Just finished watching it and thought it was ace!

I don't know how accurate 'based on a true story' is, but regardless, it was spooky and jumpy and had lots of creepy sound (which i love) and a good cast. I watch a lot of horror but this one was a cut above a lot of the crap i've watched recently. Recommended!

I wouldn't like to live at the house if for no other reason than the one below:)

I liked The Haunting in Connecticut too. I was a bit surprised it was so poorly received by critics. I guess a lot of the jumpy moments were predictable but it was a lot better than most modern horrors and the main guy played his part quite well.
 
It was alright, I read that no one experienced problems in the house before or after the real life family moved there.
The family tried making out that they knew nothing of the previous history of the place, which was allegedly bullshit, and the claims about the hauntings etc started when they were having financial problems.
 
I thought it was rubbish. Very predictable and in the end it was basically a complete rip off of the infinitely superior 'The Amityville Horror'. The main kiRAB acting was pretty good though (he was in the last season of 'The Shield' as the strange kid who Dutch thought was a serial killer), other than that though i was very bored throughout the film. Typical "Teenie Horror" aimed at 13 year old girls (at least in the US where it was rated PG-13).

And that's not me being a "gorno" fanboy either, psychological horror is much better than excessive gore as was shown by 'Drag Me To Hell' and the recent 'The Last House On The Left' remake (although granted, the latter had it's fair share of gore, but it was mainly about the psychological horror). 'Connecticut' just failed on both accounts by being so damn predictable and tired.
 
the low rating on imdb doesn't surprise me. I saw it a few weeks ago and it was very derivative. Not offering anything that hadn't been seen before in numerous films or tv movies about haunted houses.

There's a lot of major studio, minor quality horror out there. It wasn't as bad as The Unborn which I caught on dvd a while back. Just watched The Uninvited which came out around the same time. Much more interesting. The first 20 or so minutes of the Friday 13th remake (also out around that time) was excellent but it went downhill after that. Sorry to say AHIC didn't impress me at all.
 
The Uninvited is a remake of a much better film called A Tale of Two Sisters.

I watched the real family talking about it in the dvd extras, making things up and I believe they asked the person who was writing a book about it to make it more scary, add things that didn't happen and so on.
 
I didn't think it was bad - makes a change to have a western horror that has a story-line. Kyle Gallner is, in my opinion, a brilliant young actor.
