The Happening

I was going to go and watch it with my boyfriend tomorrow but reading all the negative reviews on here, i won't bother. The movie looks great in the adverts but then they are such a big let down when you watch it. Happens a lot of the time. :(

Looks like i will have to watch the new Hulk movie because there is nothing else on that looks decent.

I hate it when they make a film look really good on the trailer by shoving every bit of action and drama they can into the short clip.

I was going to go and see this last week as I felt like a trip to the cinema for a bit of escapism and based on the trailer I thought this film would do the trick - summing up the posts on this thread I'm glad I didn't so thanks for saving me the money.

you wont be disappointed with Hulk, its a good film, not a fantastic film, but really good, this new development in Marvel films is paying off, Ironman and Hulk are both films I'd gladly see again

Heres the thing guys, ive seen a copy of the Happening with subtitles. Its not the best copy in the world but its watchable. Ive done some research on the AMERICAN and BRITISH cuts of the film and ive found..........

A list of scenes which the american version has that the british version doesnt or shows alternate angles. And ive also noticed running times.

Now the version i watched has a running time of 81 minutes and shows all the stuff thats graphic present in this version. But even though it shows all these scenes in full detail its still 9 minutes short of the american running time so its still obviously a different cut.

I thought it was disappointing but not terrible. It started with a good premise, but never developed it to a higher level. I thought M. Night Shyamalan's films were supposed to have a twist at the end? This one didn't.

The Village was good, except that the "twist" was so obvious right from the beginning that I was still waiting for the "real" twist to happen after the obvious one had happened.

Lady In The Water was absolute rubbish.

Sixth Sense was brilliant though - I watched it the first time without knowing in advance that it was going to have a twist, and without anyone having told me anything about it beforehand. I was really amazed when the twist happened, and I feel sorry for the people who found out about the twist in advance.

Jesus/Krishna/Buddha and Albert Einstein!!!...... This movie is absolutely terrible.... Just terrible. The acting...f--- me..... what was Marky Mark thinking.... He is usually quite good, he stole the show in the Departed.

M Night S..... Sir quit now, pleeeeeeeease.

I just got home from seeing this and I don't see the issue with it... Saying that I really liked Signs and The Village and would like to see Lady in the Water...
I do have to agree, the acting was pretty crappy and the script was not great in places but as a whole, there was something about it that I enjoyed, apart from watching 90 mins of diff ways to kill yourself, there was still something which made me want to continue watching.
When myself and my friend came out, my friend actually said, what if that were to happen and since coming home, I have looked at the trees differently!!! HAHA :D
Anyway, I am looking forward to some uncut version... hopefully !

LOL. So you can see the whole "Lion tamer" scene on that womans phone?

SICKO!! :p

As for the movie, not as good as some of his others, dare i say it...weak.

And what's with John Leguizamo's teeth? I was struggling to understand the guy.

just watched this......................what a pile of s hi te I really like 6th sense, unbreakable and lady in the water, hated signs and this THIS EXCUSE FOR A FILM what a waste....

I'm with you on this. I seem to be in the minority too when it comes to not thinking this movie is all that bad. As for people who think MNS can't direct, well I actually think he's one of the best directors out there! Weird how opinions can differ so much.

Thought he conjured up a really good atmosphere, and though yeah it had it's flaws, I enjoyed it and had me thinking about it all night. Great opening to the film. Very creepy.

I think what was so disappointing is that the film did show some potential, but just never really went anywhere. The general premise is an interesting one, and there are some great scenes in the movie (I saw the US cut, no idea how the UK cut is), but that's all it seems to be - just a series of good scenes rather than anything that comes together as a satisfying film.

What it needed was a good ending, there was enough good stuff in the movie for it to end up being not too bad if it was capped off with a decent ending, whereas it actually got an ending so dumb (and with a final scene you could see coming a mile off) that you ended up feeling like you've just wasted a couple of hours of your life you'll never get back.

MNS's repuation for always having a twist at the end probably is a hinderance now, as you're always expecting it and anticipating what it might be, and when it's a bit rubbish it seems to let the whole film down.

I actually did really enjoy The Village, being probably the only person I know to have been surprised by the twist.

When I watched "The Village", I was waiting for the twist to happen right up to the end, and I was a bit puzzled when there wasn't one. Then I realised that the twist had already happened. Unfortunately I predicted what the twist was going to be about 2 minutes into the start of the film (because of the similarity with "Witness") and I was expecting the real twist to be something extra beyond that.

There wasn't a twist at all in "The Happneing", so maybe M Night Shyamalan has given up doing them.

Having not read any reviews or even hearing much about it, I decided to give this a go after seeing what looked like some decent trailers.

It starts of 'fairly' well - and by that I mean the first 10 minutes before Marky Mark appears. After that point it snowballs into utter drivel. The dialogue is mostly terrible - 'If we're all going to die, I need to tell you I went out with Joey from Work when I told you I was working late. We went out and ate dessert together, that was all'
'You lied to me!?'

The acting can barely be described as such. Not one person in the main cast was good. It was so wooden and felt like even they knew this was a pile of poo. Don't even get me started on the Extras who said lines here and there. Their delivery felt as though they were literally reading the script out loud.

Some of the effects were awful - the lion scene on the mobile being one that sticks in my head. It may have been edited in the UK cut and that was probably more to do with how crap it looked. It also didn't make sense why someone would send that clip from a mobile to an older ladies mobile. Maybe more likely if it were from teenagers.

What annoys me the most is that this could have been a decent film. The idea behind it isn't bad really, it was just executed in such a careless way. It feels as though the first 10 minutes of the film was the main idea and the rest was just made up as they went along.

It's not often I really dislike a movie but this has to be one of the worst to come out in recent years.

I watched this last night, I hadn't read any of the previous reviews, so didn't know what to expect.

I thought it was ok, but I have to agree that the acting was diabolical. The main actress had the most irritating voice and was a dreadful actress, Marky Mark was awful and I normally like him, even the child actress was bad.

I was waiting for a twist that didn't happen and it was all a bit unexplained. Like

If it didn't effect them because they were in small groups, why did the old bag at the end get it when she was on her own?

It had potential, but some of the lines was laughable and the acting dire, which I felt ruined the film

The film was funny in places for all the wrong reasons! It was so bad you just had to laugh!

'Can this really be happening?' :D Hahahahaha!

Well the get out clause for the whole film was mentioned at the very start in Marky Mark's science class. Basically something along the lines that some things can never be fully explained....very lucky in regarRAB to this movie!

I wanted to know more about why it was happening - why did it just start on such a massive scale? were people dropping dead before that? Why does it make you want to kill yourself? and why does it make you do it in such a horrific way ;)

One 'error',I guess, was the daughter who was locked in her room on her own (the one we hear on the mobile) If everyone else was dead and this 'virus' was only activiated by groups, why did she end up throwing herself out of her bedroom window? Because it was assumed by the end of the movie that it had only just developed to be activated by a single person (hence the nutty old lady killing herself)

lets also not forget that no sooner had it managed to develop to it's highest and most deadliest level, that it, for no reason, stopped.

Bonkers!
