The greatness that is...Leslie Neilson!

After watching Airplane! and laughing continously at his "Surely you can't be serious?", "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley" line - I can't help but feel that he is one very very talented comedy actor. Nobody else can deliver his lines so brilliantly.

I may begin watching "The Naked Gun" trilogy tonight to see him in his full work - always been favourites of mine. I have alot of respect for the guy, he's 82 and he's still coming out with some funny material.

Anybody else a fan?
 
Legend. The Police Squad is just genius, especially when the credits roll at the end and whoevers in the scene just freezes, kills me everytime I watch it :D
I watched the Naked Gun trilogy a few months back and it was still hillarious, tho it's quite odd now to see OJ Simpson hamming it up. And how funny is George Kennedy! Who'd have thought he'd be so brilliant at comedy?
Leslie plays a good villain too, he's sublime in Creepshow.
 
It's absolutely true to say that Police Squad was ahead of it's time. I'm a huge fan of it and Nielsen. He's a comedy hero. Who woulda thunk it after Forbidden Planet? :D
 
He's great. The only problem is that I always laugh when I first see him as the captain in Forbidden Planet. After a while you get used to him being in it and you stop expecting him to say something funny. It's the same with Leonard Rossiter in 2001: A Space Odyssey!

I saw Leslie Nielsen in an episode of Columbo a couple of weeks ago and he was very good in it after you got used to him not playing a comedy part.
 
I love Police Squad, it's a pity they didn't include these in The Naked Gun boxset.

I haven't seen him in anything for a while now, last thing I saw him in was the interview on the Airplane! DVD and thats going back a few years.
 
Yeah I got them but they were unavailable for years and at one point I didn't even think they were going to release them. (had to resort to watching rough VHS copies).
During the long wait for PS to come out on DVD they repackaged and re-released the Naked Gun trilogy and at the time I thought wouldn't it have been a great DVD extra to slap 2 episodes of PS on the end of each film. Fat chance. Still, I won't grumble, Police Squad is worth every penny.
 
I know people love him and his spoof movies but he just does't do it for me or maybe I should rephrase that and say I don't get him. I have watched all the Airplane,Naked Gun films and even Mr Magoo which even my kiRAB thought were hilarious but yet all he seem to do is wind me up. Sorry people my OH still can't understand why I dont fall on the floor but there you go.
 
funny guy cos hes just totally stupid. i think it was nkaed gun or it might have been a different one something bout police. and the president was tied to a chair with leslie neilson and leslie was trying to cut through the ropes he was tied up with on a shelf and lots of things fell on the presidents head and then when they were resued they were like ,"look what they did to the president" it was very funny at the time
