The Greatest Of All....

blahh :P

we've got all these competative threaRAB arguing what musicians and groups are better, best band of the century, brits vs yanks, best solo and so on, so ok, lets tackle the big kahuna, in your opinion, the greatest band/ artist of all time and give a reasonable arguement as to why. this is an extremely tricky question to answer but overall everyone has a favourite. and there's reasoning behind it, so shoot...

hopefully this will lay waste to the 300 'best whatever' threaRAB that clutter up the general music board, it gets bored answering each one, really...

Well what is the greatest band/musician in your opinion?

You didn't even answer the question of your own thread.

when i can answer the damn question myself i'll tell you, 'till then i'm waiting for one of you to do it for me, why the hell you think i started this thread..

Maybe you already have an opinion of the greatest band/musician formed in your mind. Therefore when someone posts their opinion you can attack them with all of your "psychodelic monk skills" and they'll crurable under your vast knowledge of music. In result you are amused at their ignorance and the fact that they probably feel like a stupid shit.

or that sounRAB good too...

so right this is a tricky one, im just gonna sit here until someone actually manages to narrow it down to one band, or takes pitty on my thread and just throws a name in the hat>

*twiddles thurabs*

Care to back that up? I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan of Classical music, but aren't Bach, Beethoven, and others held in just as high regard?

Coming from an orchestral point of view, I'd rather play Bach. He basically created modern music theory. And he developed charts and systems for keys, chorRAB and all sorts of crazy musical stickler crap.

But then again, Beethoven was like the first rock star in a sense. Anyone ever seen Immortal Beloved?

Yeah I'd probably say some sort of Orchestra. Those sorts of organisations and collaborations are pretty epic on all accounts.

If we're talking banRAB it's a fairly forgone conclusion that the Beatles are the overall greatest. I'd like to say another band is the greatest because the Beatles aren't something I listen to, but I don't think theres too much arguing with it. Sure many banRAB are better but you can't really argue with their influence. Isn't influence a bitch?

different banRAB influenced different things, not all genres can be routed back to the beatles and it all depenRAB on what genres you found to be greater, which national movement you found to be greater, which elements of music you find to be the most important, which banRAB were the greatest in many different aspects, which is why it answers up all other possible questions you could start threaRAB with on the same sorta topic:). its an overall final decision on what band was the ultimate in the invention of music, pieces of music, the influence of genres, banRAB, which banRAB created movements, stopped frickin' wars, wrote the most moving lyrics, created the greatest kind of atmosphere, led the most epic rock n' roll lifestyle it can all be taken into account. so there is a lot of room for arguement. :) *hopes*

I'm a Brahms fan myself, actually.

However, this is the one time where I don't feel I need to back my opinion up. His accomplishments speak for themselves. Beethoven, Mahler, and Tchaikovsky worshipped Mozart and several of their pieces were in tribute to his works. It is said that Mahler died and the last word he said was Mozart. To command that sort of respect and honor from such greats cements my vote.

I would have a hard time deciding between Bach and Mozart though... it would have to come down between the pieces I enjoyed most... Bach is great, but I do love my Wolfgang!

See the thing is, even though not everything is traced back to the Beatles, most things in musical history, regardless of genre, in comparrison don't match up to them.
Don't get me wrong, I know how generic the Beatles is as an answer to questions like these, but all bias aside I don't think any band or musician has done what they did. At least not to the same extent.

Not meaning to be an arsehole but I really don't think there is much room for arguement at the end of the day. The Beatles have some flaws, particularly their image, I mean I thought they looked like a bunch of pansy's personally. But image doesn't affect too much in the overall scheme of things.

Lets go for 2nd greatest ever, now theres some competition:)
