The greatest anime of all-time??

I'd have to say Akira, since it started this whole anime fandom in North America.

With Ninja Scroll, Ghost in the Shell(original movie), and Cowboy Bebop right behind.

One Piece, Bleach, and Naruto are great... but honestly, their just whats hot now. All seem to have a piece of Dragon Ball Z inside.

Dragonball Z also gave me some good childhood memories, but I won't say it was the best because Dragon Ball (original) was much better.

Right on, CaptainAwesome (Nagato)!!
AKIRA would have to be one of the greatest anime movies ever made, in fact it's my favourite movie of all time, and so are Ninja Scroll and Ghost in The Shell, and also Perfect Blue!!

Well there's always FLCL (Furi Kuri), and I forgot about Patlabor (and how long has it been since I watched that, I wonder?) and Tokyo Godfathers!!

One Piece is more Dragon Ball than DBZ simply because Oda perferred that area of the series. Bleach and Naruto (espiecally) are more DBZ.

One Piece deverses a mention because it is the most popular shonen anime in Japan and has been for at least 3-4 years. On that note, Detective Conan, Doreamon and Sazae-san deverse a mention, since they are the most popular of their respective genres.

Naruto and Bleach don't deverse to be called the greatest due to being filled with bad fillers and some bad storylines. Espically Naruto Part 2 (and fillers part 1).

I agree with this poster, his points are valid.

One Piece is currently my favorite anime, so I guess my blind fanboyism could be judging it wrong, but it actually better than most stuff that has came out recently, it remind me more of series from the 80's really.

Also out the 3 parts of Dragon Ball, I prefer Dragon Ball, the one where Goku was just a kid with a monkey tail, Piccolo Daimao was just a demon, rather than a Namekian. I consider it one of the best anime out there.

But, the thing is, if you have read what many other people have been saying, popularity does "not" translate to being the best.

There is no such thing as the best anime of all time, simply because different people have different opinions.

While I do like One Piece and Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z (which are the most popular shounen manga and anime), my personal favorite shounen anime is Yu Yu Hakusho, and my personal favorite shounen manga are Death Note and Rurouni Kenshin (though, the Dragon Ball manga may actually end up tying with them, when I finally finish the whole series, since its extremely good, and much better than any of its anime adaptions, IMO). Now, just because I say that those are my favorite series, does that mean that they are the best? Of course not. That's simply only my opinion.

Therefore, I feel that there isn't any possible way to claim that an anime is the best, even if you are only considering it in its respective genre, since there is nothing that will support that claim for every single person to agree with you, whether it be by its popularity, or how you, and other fans, personally feel about that series.

Well, I've basically just been repeating myself, but this is just the way that I think of this thread topic. I just can't see a best anime of all time.

But, once again, if we can share favorites here, my top 10 are:

1. Cowboy Bebop
2. Yu Yu Hakusho
3. Death Note
4. Hunter X Hunter
5. Full Metal Panic!/Fumoffu/TSR
6. Outlaw Star
7. Blue Gender
8. Black Lagoon
9. ZoiRAB: Chaotic Century/Guardian Force
10. Hellsing Ultimate

When did I ever say that I was tired of it?

Anyways, I just rewatched various episodes of the series, and I now remeraber why I loved it so much, and still do.

Outlaw Star moved down my list, only because I haven't seen it in a while. It may move back up again whenever I get around to rewatching it.

I would have to say the most popular and probably the most profitable anime of all time would have to be DBZ just for the simple fact that it was a massive success both over in its native land and here in the US, I cant really think of any anime that could rival it's mass appeal, can anyone?

I lightly watched it back when it aired in the US, but Im currently hunting down volumes and giving it the vewing it deserves )
