The great toddler bed debate character bed or no character)?

My almost 2 year old is obsessed with Thomas the Train and his father has decided that for his birthday he needs to get a plastic thomas the train bed.....I on the other hand think we should purchase a plane (nice wooden) toddler or single bed and buy thomas the train sheets and bedding....who is to day that in 6 months he will still be interested in thomas the train? Does anyone else have this discussion with their husband? Should I just give in?

I say give in...since he is only two and a boy, he will not likely change his likes and dislikes until he is a little older. By that time, he will be out of the toddler bed and moving into a single. Then, you can go with a more basic design, and decorate with his favorite trend character...

C'mon mom...it's the little things like that kids remember.

Well, I think that since he feels so strongly about it then just let him get him a Thomas bed. What can it hurt? If he decides he hates it and doesn't want to sleep in it anymore than you can get him another bed, just a plain one this time and have "I told you so" rights to use against your husband. ;-D

My twins have plain beds, though. I don't see myself getting them a fantasy bedroom anything. It's not our style. They have unisex everything.

Perhaps your husband is living his own toddler fantasy ("It would be so cool to sleep in a Thomas the Train bed!"). How about if your child was a girl and wanted a castle bed? Would you feel the same way about buying a white wooden one and buying Princess bedding for it?

I agree with your reasoning, but I can understand your husband's as well. Both of my kids had the plain wooden toddler bed with decorative bedding.

I say give in because its not like he will use the toddler bed for *that* long. If he wanted to get a Thomas twin bed i would say no.
