Some writers blame all ills of society on video games; while others say they make young people smarter or more coordinated.

What is your position? Are video games harmful, helpful, or do they have no effect at all?

Blaming video games is used as a scapegoat.

"Look how violent this game is, this is why our country is hell" But you know something? There's plenty of research online of how video games are used to RELIEVE stress. And doing so is health because that stress is now gone making one less agitated.

True, some people are addicted to video games but being violent to another person takes a much higher mentality. Sure, one might brag of their "Chain combo" attacks but if they were to hit a real person, they may not even be able to comprehend doing that.

I enjoy shooting demons.
Do I want to shoot a person? No.
Do I want to buy the sequel? Possibly, Yes.

They have always helped me to calm down, and relax after a stressful day. They are also an excellent way to become more coordinated, and some of the older games could help improve reading skills (exp. Final Fantasy 1-9).

I have also played games that have taught you interesting little facts along the way.

Depends on the video game.
Nonetheless,I don't think there exists any video game that is the cause for bad behaviour.
The cause for "bad" behaviour lies in the society as a whole.
I think video games are a source to "off-load" energy, so to speak, they exist for relaxation.
Some video games, indeed, can make you more coordinate.

I think moderation is the answer. There's nothing wrong with them, relaxing and all that, helps get out the frustrations. It's when there are no other activities for kids that cause problems.
