The Graham Norton Show returns this Friday with an eight week run.

Guests include Welsh warbler Charlotte Church and comedian Russell Howard.

10:35pm, BBC One.

Actually it returns with a 10- week run (actually 11 weeks if you include Children in Need week)

Something interesting I saw is while BBC counts this Friday's episode as 1/10 and there are 10 tape dates listed at SROAudiences, Radiotimes has this week's episode as 1/19. So I guess that they will show 10 episodes in 2010 and then take a couple weeks off and then show the remaining 9. So perhaps the Graham Norton scheduling will change next year.

find it funny that his show is back to where it started on channel 4... but the bbc stuff has always been very watered down :( they do seem to be dredging the barrel a bit bit worrying as its only the first show.

The big celeb guest has been revealed. The complete guest list for Episode 1 is Maggie Gyllenhaal, Russell Howard and Charlotte Church.

I do got hooked on Graham while checking out So. The show is quite different than what it is now. Then I would say the guests were just people that Graham wanted on his show (cultural icons, soap stars, old American TV stars), people that Graham grew up with. (Kind of weird with all the soap stars going by what Graham has just recently said, but he never did have anybody from Emmerdale on his shows, Patsy Kensit not withstanding)

Anyways, I really did enjoy So Graham Norton due to the weirdness of some of the groupings that Graham had on some of his shows (Dolly Parton and Tyrone from Corrie!) There are people that preferred the original, as people were just there to chat and there are those who love the current version. I personally like them both.:D

The reason I think it is so entertaining is because all the guests sit together for all interviews throughout the show so you get to see their view on things they would normally have nothing to do with. It can either be really entertaining or incredibly awkward (and entertaining :p)! I remember 50 cent being on and just thinking it was so awkward and one of the other guests seemed slightly intimidated by him but it was still hugely funny to watch!

Yes, but I have to admit that for some of his last series I looked at the guest list and thought - not for me - only to watch and really enjoy it. Pigs ears and silk purses spring to mind.

For me it will be interesting to see how this transfers to Friday evening. Really can't see why not to be honest, cannot remember when I recently watched a show in its live slot.

The live show wouldn't be much different. When was it recorded last series. Tuesday? Wednesday?

I'm guessing they could keep the exact same schedule and format. For the host & staff nothing will have changed, unless they have purposely done things to make it more "Friday Night" (no, i'm not sure what that means either :D)

Sorry, my mistake, I didn't mean live slot. Just its broadcasting slot.

I did read that GN said that he will just record the show on the same day, same way, hand over the tape and the Beeb will show it when they want.

Can't see it meself but I will give it a go. Partly because I do enjoy his show, and also it will while away a bit of my weekend 'what can I watch' hangover :o

Russell Howard almost ruined it. I wasn't much interested in any of the guests but seeing though I was watching it I would have liked to hear their anecdotes without Howard butting in every minute!

Was surprised to find out that Church is only 24

The show can usually be entertaining regardless of the guests because of the anecdotes and daft stuff that Graham gets up to.

However, I get bored when they have those interchangeable rent-a-comedian types on. Russell Howard - dull. I can barely put a name to the face.

A decent show last night. I agree with Sloopy that the show is usually entertaining even if I have little interest in the guests he has on which is sort of the beauty of the format. Obviously though the better the guests, the better the show!

Great ratings last night too, I believe they were the show's highest ever so the move to Friday nights paid off.
