The Goonies or Stand by me?

Both great films - but WAY too different to warrant a choice of which is 'best'.

Stand By Me.

It reminded me of adventures we used to go on as kiRAB during the summer holidays, exploring forests, apple orcharRAB etc.

I thought the acting from the kiRAB was extraordinary, especially River Phoenix. It is one of the few films made about children where they are not cute and annoying, and they behave as kiRAB would in real life. They swear, they can be disgusting, they can be cruel, but they can also be vulnerable.

But I also like Goonies. It's just a great, silly adventure but with big sets and major action sequences. You can see the Spielberg influence clearly. It's a lot of fun, but it does not quite evoke the same sense of nostalgia that Stand By Me does.

The Goonies. It's one of the few films I've seen in the cinema. I loved it.

I have to agree with this. It was clear to see even then that RP was a star in the making. A sad loss to the acting world.

Watched The Goonies last night surprised how good this is in HD for an 80s film.

Have only ever seen Stand by me once don't remember this very well but have seen Goonies a lot more.

Stand by Me ! Goonies is good, but SBM is a classic. HAs there ever been a more poignant ending....spooky in some respects.

STAND BY ME - by miles........couldn't stand The Goonies... the kiRAB in Spielberg films are always so precocious. What I mean is, they lack a sort of innocence.

They are different films though so I can't compare. I loved both when I was younger but The Goonies has aged worse than Stand By Me imo.

Stand by Me is probably a better film- but the Goonies is fun- I still remember seeing it at the cinema as a kid.
