The Goodies

Why oh why have the BBC never repeated the Goodies since they left in 1981? OK the last two series weren't up to much, but the classic era Goodies with Kitten Kong, the Le Boring festival and Jack and the Beanstalk are surely worth repeating. It was totally manic fun, and the punk rock of comedy in its day.

They had a special retrospective last year (or perhaps earlier this year), and it got good viewing figures, as far as I recall. I thought it might prompt some repeats, but nothing seems to have happened.

I love the Goodies. My big brother has some of the DVD's. They are hilarious. My favourate episode is the Kung Fu Kapers. My favourate character was Tim:o. God comedy's gone down hill- Only Fools, Porridge, Open all hours ect

It is the only classic seventies comedy, barring Love Thy Neighbour, never to have been repeated in the last 30 years. I know The Goodies had a massive fall out with the BBC over their last series, which was way below par, but surely people like Tim Brooke Taylor, who is never seen on television, would welcome the repeat fees.

Bill Oddie would be very pleased to get some residuals from repeats of The Goodies. Let's be generous and say he is 'endearingly grumpy' about the way the BBC has treated the show ! Hope you are feeling better now, Bill.

I loved The Goodies as a kid. Obviously they haven't run repeats in a long time, apart from a one-off repeat a year or so back. To be honest, that one repeat did seem to have dated very badly. It'd be interesting to see some more to see if it was just that episode or if the whole series would now seem that way.

The Goodies was a great show which appealed to adults and children alike. Why the BBC has never repeated it is one of the great unanswered mysteries. Maybe its wide appeal is the problem, it doesn't fit the highly prized "yoof" demographic.

UK Gold aired most existing Goodies
episodes twice around 1992/1993, even the B&W versions of wiped colour ones.

UK Gold also aired 3 series of Love Thy Neighbour

There is a 40th Anniversary boxset on the way including all the episodes released so far aswell as the LWT series

The filmed inserts were the bits that probably could be repeated, they were almost like silent-era slapstick films.

The studio stuff I recall had a totally different vibe.
