The Goode Family - "Pilot" - Talkback [5/27]

It looks like the hippie verison of KOTH, and I KNOW that Mike judge is doing this show. But why couldnt he do something nutty like Beavis and Butthead for a new show? I thought this was alright but I wont watch the show alot....

Except for the crazy dog and the familiar voices (it's nice to hear Julia Sweeney again), I just wasn't feeling it...and you're talking to a guy who laughed himself silly at "Sit Down, Shut Up".

Maybe I'll give it another chance, but I'm not holding my breath.

John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky did well with the pilot, so I'm not shocked that the networks were fighting over it. Hope the series improves from here. Had a better start than SDSU, that's for sure.

I missed it. I thought it was coming out this summer. Anyway I only have one question. Is it a Family Guy or South Park clone? Or is it a show all it's own? Please be honest because I don't want to sit myself down and watch a bunch of Family Guy-esque trash.

This intruiged me. I thought I was going to hate it but I didn't. I'm a lefty and one of the most frustrating things about King of the Hill for me was that despite how buffoonish and stupid the characters were the conservative position was almost always shown as the correct one. In other words, the show made fun of conservatives but elevated conservatism itself which is not what I'd exactly call a fair compromise.

Here the opposite is true. While the characters here are more cartoonish and stereotypical and not grounded in realism like KotH's are, the moral of this episode was undoubtably a progressive position. Promise Rings and the idea that a father is the one to hold onto his daughter's virginity are rightly shown as creepy and disturbing here which was a pleasant surprise. It's only the first episode so it may not actually be the direction the show is going in but I'll take making fun of liberals themselves while saying their positions are actually decent any day of the week.

I didn't even know this show was debuting last week. And I seriously dobut many other people knew either.
No wonder ABC's animated series are so short-lived.

Conservative does not always mean politically conservative. But I'd say he's a fairly centrist guy, but whether he's slightly to the left or right? We may never know.

Just watched the episode on ABC's site...it wasn't bad. Really kept finding parallels to King of the Hill, it's kind of weird how similar the shows are.

Caught the episode today. In all honesty, the show just wasn't getting that many laughs out of me except for Yubatu's antics. Yubatu was pretty entertaining and my favorite moment was when he got the opportunity to drive the family car in an emergency.

However, I'm not ready to write this show off. I do believe in Mike Judge and I do believe that this show can surprise me in terms of humour and writing.

I'm not fond of them either considering how they can severely date a TV show.
