The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Did anyone see this great western last night?
Arguably, the best of all time, superb acting by the three main characters, but for me, Eli Wallach stole the picture.

I think it is a great movie, however, it is rather too long, and some of the camera angles which was part of Leone's technique do linger on too much.

Still, it was good to see it again though.

It's a classic.Undoubtably one of the greatest movies ever made.If it wasn't for the legendary final showdown,Once Upon a Time in the West would have been ever so slightly better than it though.

Yes I watched it, have it on DVD in the box set with A Fistful of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More.

Great film. :)

I love The Good The Bad and the Ugly - classic film :)
I'm not sure but wasn't Angel Eyes supposed to be "The Ugly" and Tuco "The Bad" not the other way round?
Some of the music is awesome.

In the theatrical trailer, Angel Eyes is "The Ugly" and Tuco "The Bad," which is the reverse of their designations in the actual film.

This is because the Italian title translated into English is actually The Good, the Ugly, the Bad, not The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and the Italian trailer had "The Ugly" and "The Bad" in that order.

When the trailer was transferred to English, The Ugly and The Bad were not reversed to coincide with the altered title, causing the incorrect designations.

The music in TGTBATU is amazing. I love the use of The Soldier's Story and The Ecstasy of Gold near the end - the way the motfs from Fistful, Dollars More (guitar + music box) are almost combined into something greater.

Got it on dvd in a sale, changed my opinion on older films for good. I was tempted to get into westerns, but the only other western I liked was 3:10 to Yuma.

late addition to this

i watched One Upon a Time in the West the other day - Remastered DVD, absolutely superb. I dont think you understand it properly first time - only second time through - enthralling commentary highlighting all the references/homages to older classic westerns.

arguably better music than the Clint Eastwood films

I like old westerns (eg The Fastest Gun on Earth)

but of recent ones

Unforgiven (Clint) is great
Open Range (Kevin Costner) is also good

i've just ordered 3.10 to Yuma on Blu-Ray, so we'll see

Once upon a time in the West is one of my favourites, alongside the Fistfull of Dollars trilogy.
I've got the soundtracks somewhere and occasionally stick on, I'd love to go and watch Ennio Morricone live and listen to the music, and to also be able to watch the films on a big screen.
