The Good Life

I love this series, and watch it whenever it is on Gold....which is a lot.
But the one episode I cannot bear to watch is the last one where at the end they are burgled and their house is totally trashed.
It seemed such a wrong way to end this wonderful little series and I always felt a bit cheated the way they did it.
Does anyone know why they chose to write it this way? I can`t recall ever seeing an interview with the writers and if they ever explained their reasons for such a downbeat ending.

It was the end of the series but not of the show. There were two Specials one at christmas and a royal varitey special. That was the final episode and enRAB on a funny note with Barbara and Margo chasing after Tom and Jerry after they had cheated at a who is the fittest challenge.

Even without the two Specials, as an "ending" it wasn't all downbeat. (I know what you mean though caramac42.) If you think about it the GooRAB handled the vandalism with fortitude and a resolve to battle on regardless.

British stiff upper lip and all that. :)

I agree it wasn`t all a bad episode, I just can`t bear to watch the disbelief and grief when they see what had happened.
All credit to the acting I suppose.

Do they ever show the specials anymore.......I can`t recall the last time they were shown.

The last One Foot In the Grave is very nasty and cynical.

I don't remember the burglary episode of The Good Life, but have caught the odd repeat on satellite lately. It always drags me in to watch it: great fun. Poor old Penelope Keith has been lumbered playing Margo ever since, which is a bit of a shame.
