I love TCM. They show all these old movies, some of them are quite bad, and every now and then a real classic turns up.
The Good Earth is set in China, based on a novel by Pearl Buck. Most of the characters are played by non-Asian actors, but I think they do a fairly good job.
Luise Rainer is amazing in her role as O-Lan, and fully deserved her AA. She was so fragile, yet strong, and developed during the movie.
It might be a bit long (2.20) but if you get the chance, it's definitely one to watch. TCM show it every once in a while...
Anyone else seen it, or do most people not watch movies from 1937?
