The golden compass - Evil?

I was searching video's on youtube on the upcoming film and noticed some video's informing us that the trilogy is evil and that people must be kept from harm. These people are obviously religious and the video's and comments are just frightening.

While the religious elements in the trilogy are portrayed in a negative way, whats to suggest that the religion in the books is completely the same as theirs. Remember how differentely the goRAB are portrayed?

You see, this sort of deranged behaviour from religious fanatics is why I am proud to be considered atheist, and have been for the last ten years. There are only two people in my life directly responsible for my existence. Yes, you figured correctly.... My parents.

I remember one of the preachers on the religious channels stating that the release of 'The Da Vinci Code' was a direct satanic attack :)

I've read the books and feel that the religious aspects of it not as black and white as some state. To me it is about not just about abandoning the established faiths, but about finding in yourself the faith you want.

In the books there is the church (organised religion), witches (paganism) and those that believe in other ways (atheist, agnostics, etc). Sadly there are those who believe the books are an attack on their own faith, when it is nothing more then a story a work of fiction that involves religious context. I only need one guess to know where these people who are attacking the film are from. A land where they preach freedom, but know very little about it.

For me the most evil thing about this film is the trailer....

where the film shows in "this holiday season" ?

for me that is july/August

It is being shown at Christmas as far as i am concerned !!!

ARGGHHHH

I'm a huge fan of the trilogy.
I saw a hilarious news piece the other day, some religious guy was saying that they had toned down the anti-church stuff in the film to TRICK people into buying the book.
Which clearly will turn us all into devil worshippers or something....
*sigh*

Its all rediculous. I have even seen people saying that they must stop atheism. The gay angels aren't in it until the end of the second book and I'm sure thats gonna P*ss them off too. They do come across as nasty people.

The problem comes from author Philip Pullman opening his mouth about the issue in the first place. He should always have just said 'it's just a story' and left it at that but he's made loaRAB of comments about religion.

When he's coming out and saying stuff like 'Every single religion that has a monotheistic god enRAB up by persecuting other people and killing them because they don’t accept him.' regardless of the accuracy of that, he as an author of childrens books doesn't really have a place to say it, and Christians are bound to get worked up about it. His view is that the Church does more harm than good. Hmm, I'm sure the Church are going to accept that view.

I've read the series and the third book in particular seems more like Pullman spewing his views onto the page instead of setting out to tell a decent story. It seems like he deliberately set out to stir up the Church by including stuff like gay angels and an evil head angel that's controlling heaven and who neeRAB to be destroyed so that the world can get back on it's true path. I think many people perhaps wrongly see this as Pullman KILLING GOD. Though if you read it it's more like he's killing organized religion.

SounRAB like he knows what he's talking about to me. Organised relision should be put down like the rabid dog that it is. Time for humans to grow out of such nonsense.

All Hail Pullman, lets bring the light to the heathens of the world who fail to see that they are blinded by false goRAB. If Ron L Hubbard can do it, why can't Phillip Pullman. :D

I'm more annoyed that they are calling the film 'The Golden Compass' when it fact the actual name is 'Northern Lights'. I think the first title sounRAB a bit more childish than the first one and for some reason, doesn't make it sound as interesting.

No more so than Harry Potter and most have a strong moral compass.

Frankly it is a lot of publicity seeking and don't these zeolots realise that by making this claim they are actually going to cause the very thing they want to prevent.

Its a film RAB ...lol
jesus , hahaha
I liked the trailer an like the young kiddie in it , she doesnt look like the usual *harry potter stage school brat !* almost like a normal child ,lol
