The Godfather Trilogy

The series is starting over the weekend. :D

What do you think of this trilogy?

My favourite was the first one with Al Pacino as amateur gangster and how he later started to become a ruthless mafiosa figure.

Two...was fantastic because of the beginnings of the whole story...and again played out by a fantastic actor

Who played the best parts...or was it equal?

Who got a raw deal? (Personally I thought Andy Garcia did)...he's a great actor but the part in the third series always must seem like an apology when he's going for new movies.

What I mean is in opposed to De Niro and Pacino...and their success in the first two movies...and Garcia's failure in the third. :(

So what are your thoughts? :) These are my all time fave movies, so your comments good or bad are appreciated :)

I have the boxset on DVD. The first two are excellent films, but I think the third one was lost some of the magic that the first two had, but the third is still a good film and does keep you enthralled through out. I really like these three films and still think that they are some the best films ever made.

He wasn't in it!
:D
Are you thinking of Al Pacino as Don Michael Corleone?

EDIT:
I stand corrected.
Robert De Niro was in 'The Godfather II'
Apologies Sweet FA.

Shame on you aj! Robert de Niro was in the second part !! He played Don Corleone as a young man - the part played by Marlon Brando in the first film. I adore the Godfather films, definitely in my top ten of all films, although I was less keen on the third part. Some years ago the BBC showed the first two films in chronological order, so it started in Sicily and ended with Al Pacino as the new godfather. I wish this was out on DVD. No doubt someone will tell me it is!!

I love these 3 films, I have them on Video as well as DVD, Al Pacino was so brilliant, I think my favourite is no 3, as I also Love the Opera Cavalliera Rusticana. Near the end of the film When Mary is shot is about the saddest scene I have ever seen in a film. when we saw it at the cinema for the first time, I bawled my eyes out and it still makes me cry. I think its that long silent scream, that erupts from Al Pacino, it really gets to me!!
I got this next weeks Total TV guide today, and its all on again next week :D

Trivia...

Robert De Niro and Marlon Brando both won oscars for playing the same character.

I would like to see another Godfather film set in the era just before Godfather 1 was set showing how Vito Corleone became really powerful. De Niro could again play Vito Corleone.

I once saw the chronological version of part1 and part 2 combined. It included some added scenes.

I know you've already been berated as well as berating yourself but how could you possibly forget!

He won the Oscar for it as well!

A poster of him collecting it used to be my screensaver...and soon will be again.:D

I LOVE the Godfather. Al Pacino is just wonderful as Michael, especial in the second movie. True brilliance.

Ever watched all three in one sitting? :D FANTASTIC!

The films are great but so is the book by Mario Puzo. It's only one of two books that I've been bothered enough to read from start to finish, I couldn't put it down!
