jumping of a person from...? 1.) The forward motion of a bullet shot from a gun causes a recoil of the gun, just as jumping of a person from a rowboat to a dock cause the boat to be pushed backward. Explain why this is so.

2.) If the reaction is of equal magnitude to the action, why don't you observe your ping-pong paddle recoil when it strikes the ping-pong ball?

3.) During an interaction between a 12-kg object and a 40-kg object, the 12-kg object experiences as eastward acceleration of 2.5 m/s^2. What is the acceleration of the 4- kg object?

1. for every action there is an equal reaction, the mass of the projectile going forward is so much less than the combined mass of the rifle & shooter the same amount of force required to propel that small mass of projectile only moves the rifle back a small controllable distance.

2. The mass of the ping pong ball is so little that the paddle is hardly effected, if you struck a tennis ball with the same paddle you would feel the difference.
