My thoughts exactly.

Pulse was by far the worst remake i've seen, I loved the original but thought that the remake was appalingly bad.

I really wish they would leave these Asian films alone I mean the most recent ones to come out (or coming out) are:

The Eye (HK)
Shutter (Thai)
A Tale of two sisters (Korea)

It's not just the Japanese that are getting stuffed with remakes of their films and I for one am sick of it, It tarnishes the name of the original film for some people.

Though Shutter probably has the best chance of being succesful as it's directed by Masayuki Ochiai who has directed 2 films I like in 'Hypnosis' and 'Infection' although the trailer didn't exactly wow me so we'll soon see.

Battle Royale is one im certainly not looking forward to seeing as well.
 
Thanks to some of you on here looks like I'm going to be investing in a lot of these original films now.
Could anybody give me a (please hence ....shortlist) of the must have movies, such as 'Ring, Dark Water etc.
Plus could I really find them scary now after watching some of these alleged awful remakes?
 
I'm seeing the Jessica Alba film (sorry everyone) this week, don't expect it to be great but I still want to see it. I find the Japanese versions hard to get into. I watched the Japanese 'Ring' and actually thought the remake was better.
 
The original Eye wasn't Japanese...

I've yet to see the remake, and probably never will unless for free.



I enjoyed the second movie also, they are remaking it last time I heard. I haven't seen the Eye Infinity one, it's suppose to be awful and 'comedy', can't wait for the third 'horror' one.




They're making it, and they have changed the name from A Tale of Two Sisters, to something stupid like Unborn(the name of another Asian horror, so people will probably think it's a remake of that now...)

A Tale of Two Sisters is one of my favourites.

Apparently 'The Uninvited' will get a release date of 30th January in America. Coming out around the time with FOUR other horror remakes(Hellraiser, Wolfman, My Bloody Valentine, and Friday the 13th) oo er.
 
I got round to watching Eye Infinity - it's definitely nowhere near as good as The Eye & Eye 2. It's a bit more of a teen movie and not really very atmospheric or dreamy like the first 2. It's got its moments though.

It deals with the remaining 8 methoRAB that can be used to see ghosts - the first 2 being dealt with in the first 2 films (eye transplants from a dead person, and attempting suicide while pregnant), and basically a group of teenagers get together to try these 8 methoRAB.
 
I'm glad i'm not the only one!!

My hubby and I got the original Ring out from Blockies, really excited as we enjoyed the american film so much and I thought bloody good job hollywood did remake it! Didn't find it atmospheric or scary or anything really - just a non-film with a little bit of a storyline.

I expect to lynched now by people that think I don't 'understand' the original etc etc..............:rolleyes:
 
I wasn't a big fan of the original Ring. I'm not really a huge fan of the Japanese people-isolated-in-apartment-blocks type films, but they are generally better than the hol;lywood remakes.
But Pang Brothers' The Eye (which is not Japanese ;)) is excellent.
 
I thought the Ringu remake was decent(forgetting the crap cgi for the ghost's makeup), but not better than the original, no way. Saw it when it first came out, sooooo creepy.

Now the Ring 2 remake was crap.
 
Saw this today, it was alright. I thought it was more of a 'drama' than a 'horror' though. It was good, not great. I'd say wait for the DVD to anyone wondering though, glad I watched it during the day at the cinema rather than waiting for it at night.
 
That's because it wasn't a remake! And the Director (who actually directed Ringu) threw the original concept out and tried to make it a sequel which followed on from both his film and The Ring which just screwed everything up!
By and large The Ring is the best of the Japanese remakes, because it gets rid of all the convoluted spiritual givens which are pretty much inaccesible to western audiences as it's not been a major part of our cultural upbringing, while sticking very close to the plot and the way the story unfolRAB. Having been a big fan of Asian horror I can quite honestly say that while I thought Ringu was amazing, The Ring is much more enjoyable and esier to watch!
 
Yes you are right, don't know why I put remake. I forgot it was directed by the original guy too. Makes it even worse that it turned out rubbish lol, don't know why he didn't just remake the sequel, the sequel has some pretty good moments in it.
 
Seen this yesterday and while it had the potential to be some thing good it just fell flat, a few jumpy moments but they were brief and the sentimental drivel at the end was just yawn !! wait for DVD !!
