The Eye

I watched this on Sunday...and was bored to tears with it, well almost.

I love the original Japanese versions of these films (The Ring etc ), but this 'Hollywood' remake was just boring.

Maybe I expected too much? I thought The (Hollywood) Ring was a decent remake.

Anyone else seen this yet?

That's such a shame as the original is fantastic:

"You're sitting in my chair..."

I was really looking forward to the remake but I won't bother now.

Probably a good idea.

It's very glossy and stylish looking..and does it's best to be atmospheric/dark, but it just doesn't cut it.

I guess it will get a lot of viewers due to Jessica Alba being in it, though. (male viewers I'd imagine)

I wish Hollywood would leave these Asian Horror films alone.

Ive yet to see one which is as good or does justice to the originals.

I liked the original Asian version a lot. Very atmospheric and spooky. I really felt sorry for the girl in it too, who was an unusually sympathetic protagonist. Not looking forward to the remake at all.

It's hardly suprising. Every Hollywood remake of Asian horror has been rubbish ! The originals are always excellent. The recent remakes :-

The Eye - rubbish

The Grudge - rubbish

Premonition - rubbish

Shutter - rubbish

Dark Water - rubbish

Ring - rubbish

One Missed Call - rubbish

I could go on. I gave up on remakes long ago.

Sorry to be pedantic, but the original isn't Japanese. It was made by Pang Brothers Danny and Oxide, from Hong Kong.
I watched Pang Brothers Eye 2 the other day - another great Asian film. Still got Eye Infinity to watch. And I heard they are making The Eye 3.

To add to the above lists, wasn't Pulse also remade by Hollywood? The original is excellent.

You are, indeed, correct. It was a Hong Kong movie. I also loved the original Pulse and specifically didn't watch the remake cos I knew it would be pants. Aren't the Americams doing A Tale Of Two Sisters too? It's one of my favourite Asian horrors and God knows what they'll do to that to dumb it down.

I thought it was good. It's not a sequel to The Eye, but a completely different story using a similar idea.

Let's hope Hollywood doesn't remake Versus!

RAB:eek: I thought I was behind the times learning that 'The Eye' was a remake (yes, I didn't know that). Though to also learn that there is a part 2 and 3 out there:rolleyes: Well maybe I'm not missing much anyway.
Also I didn't know 'Pulse' was a remake, which I sort of enjoyed for this generation. Was the original just called 'Pulse' also? As I never have heard of it? Mind you some of these remakes today, make you want to dig out the originals.

A common mistake. I've seen My Little Eye but I can remember very little about it.

Just imdb'd it - I remember it now. Big Brother with horror.

The sad thing is a vast number of people wont see the brilliant originals of these films because they wont open thier eyes to foriegn subtitles cinema.

Their loss !!

I won't put myself through anymore of these american remakes. I learnt my lesson with The Ring and Grudge.
When will they learn eh :-P
Eye scared the bejesus out of me. As always, Japanese horror prevails :-D
