The Explain Why You Like This Album ('cause i don't understand) Thread

I find any religious themes on ITAOTS are presented in a negative light.




What Burns Never Returns was my first foray into math-rock (2 months ago now) and I found it to be tremendous. Since then I haven't listened to anything of the sort, though I've been meaning to listen to some Killing Joke I downloaded. Any recommendations?
 
I think "Marquee Moon" is a great if not necessarily classic album and as you say it does revolve around the guitars especially the interplay with Verlaine and Lloyd which at times is hypnotic especially on the title track, also the manic signing style of Verlaine. Also, a lot of other punk and new wave banRAB at the time weren`t very good musicians, whereas Television were very adept in that department. On a whole, I still see this as one of the most important if not necessarily the best new wave albums of the that era and like most American banRAB of the time it found initial success in the UK rather than in their native USA.

I think the big negative that goes against this album, is that they recorded just one more album after this before splitting, meaning that as a band they were never really able to build on the success of "Marquee Moon."
 
My experience with Marquee Moon went something like this:


First listen: "Wow, this is the best album ever!"

Second listen: "Wow, this is almost the best album ever!"

Sixth listen: "Eh, it's ok."

Tenth listen: "This is shit."


Apart from Venus and Elevation, there's not much happening here. Even those tracks are rather unimpressive. The guitar work on this album is the most overrated this side of Eric Clapton.
 
Actually Animals has grown on me a lot, though I never disliked it at any point in time. It's indeed a great album.

I love The Beatles, don't think there's anything they've done that I don't love or really like. Not liking Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Bowie and Dylan do seem to be big nono's though.. I'm with you there.

If music can only be enjoyed when you're off your tits, then it's shit

*I can see a bit of appeal in the other albums, especially London Calling which I warmed up to a little (still not a classic to me though). This however, is absouletely terrible. I don't get it at all. I can't believe this is considered to be the best soul album ever.*

Yeah.. I'm still trying to figure out my own tastes. I couldn't tell you why I don't like them.. or why I like these 2 completely unrelated songs.

Both threaRAB are still equally ugly. I'll just wait for this one to die, like the "ugliest Beatles tune" did.
I thought that threaRAB that are filled with:

quality discussions, must be minimized at any cost.

I don't see much point in naming albums from a genre you don't listen to. Of course you're not going to like it, there's nothing anyone can say to make you change your mind (which is I suppose the point of the thread).
 
Apparently it's all about the story behind the album. It was an uncanny time for Sly, and a controversial statement back in the day, especially for a big record company. It's all about the mystery that surrounRAB it. I would definitely recommend reading Continuum's 33 1/3 series, the one that focuses on this particular record. I didn't, and perhaps that's why I share in your sentiment. The above is just what I've heard.
