The Explain Why You Like This Album ('cause i don't understand) Thread

It's just easier for me to organize my thoughts if i do one at a time. But also... I can't figure out how to use that multi-quote thing. Help? :)

I thought we were discussing. I was discussing why I still like them despite them being Christians. So, no worries...discuss away.

Am I the only one that can tune out vocals if I really don't like them? I'll admit there are a few banRAB out there where the music is top notch but the vocals get to me. I usually just focus on the music and ignore the vocals...I'd say 90% of the time I end up getting used to the vocals and actually enjoy them.

I LOVE UUUUU JESUS AH CERIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSST JESUS CHRIAAAASSST I LOVE U YES I DOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Well that about sums it up, it's a great album but not without it's short comings as demonstrated, and it is indeed pretty overrated but so is pretty much anything popular with hipster c*nts these days.

Eh, actually I think that has helped me think of it in a new light. I'll bear that all in mind the next time I listen to it.

Stop? I think that's the first comment I've ever made on rab about that album. But it is really, really bad. One of those interest killer type of albums. You know, albums that are so awful they pretty much make you lose all interest in a band.

Those were the first songs I quite liked, but I saw nothing else in the album that I liked for a while, my advice is just stick with it and listen every now and again unless you really don't think it's your cup of tea, then just save yourself the time and effort and just put this album in the dislike pile.

And on the flip side, people that do see it as a complete and amazing album don't get why you don't think of it so highly.

Seriously, what are you not seeing with this album?

It's just the perfect epitome of guitar pop music played with a smidge of punk plus it's got a few quirky songs like the incredibly catchy End of a century, the swirling paradoy debt collector and the exquiste love song To the end. By turns It's moving and playful. Every song is inspired and adorned with many a weird and wonderful instrumental touches, breaks such as with the violins in TRacy Jacks or harmonic vocals not to mention GRaham's fantasitc f/x laden guitar solos and Damon's brilliant lyrics touching on a myriad variety of subjects.

Alright, here's one. Somebody help meh out! Sly & The Family Stone - There's A Riot Goin' On: heralded by many as one of the best albums of the 1970s, I don't see how it's even one of the best FUNK albums of the 70s. I'm not even sure it's the best SLY album of the 70s. I've listened to it at least a dozen times. All I took away from it is that:

- it has about 3 very good songs,
- and another 35 or so minutes of what might as well be background music for a bar or a movie, devoid of any real hooks or anything particularly memorable
- the icing on the cake is that all of those non-singles tracks seem like some sort of great shameless drug-infused mess - which was probably never supposed to happen in the first place

So...am I missing something? Enlighten me.

Even I could make a lo-fi sounding mishmash of half baked Mark E Smith mannerisms from the mid 80s should I choose to.

I don't know why Pavement are praised to high heaven when they do it.
