I'm out of album discussion now. But I will say I agree about what has been said about Animal Collective. MPP is not so good but Strawberry Jams rocks the ****.
 
Yeah I see where you are coming from and paradoxically agree but I have had so many failed attempts on rab I have become sort of battle hardened and realised that once a mind has been made up, it can be a thankless task sometimes.

What I could say in PT'S defence is that their music has constantly evolved and they are not just a heavy band with Prog inclinations. Their first few albums were very arabient keyboard/guitar led.

The other way to look at it is that PT are a fairly easy on the ear type of band so if you don't like them then you probably may never really like them. Yet I would much prefer to big up a band that are more difficult to listen to as they can be the more rewarding. If you like Prog etc then missing out on PT is not a huge biggie but a band with a unique sound may well be worth the time investment. I guess that's how I approach banRAB and reco's for music.

Edit: All what tipped me off was, all these threaRAB about multiple albums, all have the same albums with the same arguments about it... I think I'll just go away from the "general music" section for a while.

Dark Side is fantastic, the vast array of sounRAB, the fascinating nature of the songs and the way they fit together. It took me two years to learn to distinguish the songs, except for Money of course. Plus it's mass appeal, it opened so many eyes to the previous genius of Floyd's music.
 
I'm with you on this one. I don't see how people consider this a classic or even find them meaningful to music history. Saw them live last year and it was just horrible. Rotten is nothing but a clown who's not even remotely funny (clowns are scary anyway).
 
I know I sure do. I love that album but I don't know how to convince you, Zero. I find it has a lot of great hooks in it. The vocals contrast the instruments very nicely. I think it's cool how 90+ of electronic-ey sounRAB in the album are produced by guitars and bass.
 
Eh, I thought you meant cohesive in terms of consistency in quality.

There's nothing wrong with Pigs on a Wing really, it's just not on par with the 3 main songs of the album. That's more along the lines of what I meant.

I don't think Money is either a drop in quality from the rest of the album or out of place regarding the theme of the album.

Where I live Money doesn't get any more overexposure Time or Brain Damage/Eclipse, but RABOTM is the album that really got me into music for serious and for that I'll always have a ridiculous amount of affection for it despite how popular it is.

I don't see anything wrong with Wish You Were Here either, it's just popular.

I just think people hate on specific songs like Money because of their popularity, when people say "Money" or "ABITWP2" is their worst song I can't take them seriously. Nobody would think it if they weren't hella popular. I mean seriously, if those songs weren't popular I don't think anyone could honestly think "yep, this is totally worse than Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast and Dogs of War".

Ha, sure. Just surprises me. I thought Circulatory System's self-titled sounded like another OTC album, just not quite as good. Still had a nuraber of catchy songs to me, it just wasn't genius.
 
Spot on, however I believe if an album is good, after a bit of time dedicated to getting into the album, the not being around at the time factor can fade IF the album is actually decent. A few of my favourite albums, at first I just branded them as meh, until I really dug deeper.

When I have a discussion about an album I dislike or don't get, I always hope people who can see something in the album give me an insight, make me see things I didn't previously see.
 
Fair enough, Im not a complete Oasis hater, Definitely Maybe is a great album, slide away is just stunningly brilliant.

I just don't get morning glory, so many poor tracks and as ive already said the title track in particularly makes me want to puke.
 
I was about to get all defensive, but then I thought about this album compared to some other Bowie classics. I guess it doesn't quite measure up. I really respect how experimental this album is, though...and it is still really good. I have certain mooRAB where I really feel like listening to it. But yeah, it's no Hunky Dory.
 
Eh, I'll let Sam or someone else talk crap about it first and that'll give me an excuse to go into "worked up hyper defensive proggie" mode.

I'm a bit too tired at the moment.
 
eh, with the Sex Pistols, it was less about the music and more about the image of the band as punks, which honestly had an effect on the youth of that day and even youth of today.


so yeah, the cd is REALLY overhyped, but it's not that a bad album. honestly, it's got some good stuff there if you ask me.
