The Explain Why You Like This Album ('cause i don't understand) Thread

You don't understand my argument at all.

The Residents didn't do what they couldn't do. I feel The Stooges didn't understand their limitations, or rather they just didn't give a sh*t, and they weren't even trying to experiment or diversify their sound or anything. No band should be so sloppy at trying to play music that simple. They make The Sex Pistols sound like Iron Maiden.

I kinda dig Down on the Street and 1970 but the rest of Fun House just grates the hell out of me. And I think they go way beyond their limits when they try to "jam" like on Dirt and the title track. And then there's LA Blues, good god. Talk about one of the most overrated albums of all time.

Raw Power is a lot better, but I wouldn't call that one a masterpiece either.

Can I absolutely adore The Olivia Tremor Control, while still thinking Circulatory System is incredibly boring? Because I do.

The only CS song I like is 'Yesterday's World', the rest of it is boring as hell, there's no hooks, its like if Olivia Tremor Control wasn't catchy or good at songcraft at all, which is a great deal of their appeal to me.

RABOTM is too perfect. I know that is a weak sypnosis but the album feels less organic than a lot of their othere releases. Don't get me wrong, The Great Gig In The Sky and Us And Them are amazing tracks but it feels more like a product than an album. A lot of hardcore Floyd fans are not that big on RABOTM to be honest.

I thought this'd be a good idea. There are lots of albums out there that are widely acclaimed by critics and adored by fans, or just the former, or just the latter, or whatever. Then there are people who listen to the album a few times and just don't get what the big deal is.

My idea for the thread is that somebody comes and mentions an album that he/she never really quite got what all the hype was about, and then another meraber will respond at some point, in their own worRAB, with just what it is about the album that makes them love it.

The song 'Sometimes' shows what a brilliant songwriter he was IMO.

Amongst others of course, but Sometimes definitely shows his talents as a songwriter.

Why don't you think he's a very good songwriter? I'd say he was underrated as a songwriter myself...

I fail. Why do I pick difficult albums to start with? I'll be sure to give Red a listen as soon as possible. After I sober up/sleep, I'll give it a listen. So later tonight.

You're missing out young man,Countdown To Ecstasy might even be better and Pretzel Logic is great fun.LoaRAB of great tracks that arn't near the Best-Of.
