Is anyone else frightened of this movie?. Everytime i see this film is scares me to death. The thought of this movie being based on a true story gives me shivers down my spines, does it to anyone else?.

Its based on a true story. The real events are a 100 time less frightening. Read up on it. Its not impressive at all, just the claims of some priests, who want to prove to people the devil is real. If you look at all the other stories of movies based on true evens they are all the product of no solid evidence, just word of mouth, and some odd natural occurrences.

The Exorcist is based on the diary of 2 priests who performed an exorcism on a young boy in the 1950's.
There is a book is called Possessed by Thomas Allen.
It is based on the diary which one of the priests kept during the exorcism and was apparently found in a St Louis Hospital when the building was being torn down.
As for the film, I have seen it that many times now it has no affect at all

I do have The Exorcist- The Directors Cut. It is one of those films that never scared me. I reckon a lot of the back lash against it was from the holy point of view.
However I did enjoy watching the Extras and seeing the filming (Gun shots for reactions). For the time a great film, you had to be there in that Era to really get spooked by it as with Pyscho.

OMG I watched this film the other night. It was a great film but scary, not at all!!!!
I've been putting off watching this for years because I have a semi-belief in these things but in a way I'm disappointed it didn't scare me at all. I had a peaceful nights sleep with the light off

I think I'm right in saying that the original 1973 version of the film is the "directors cut",not the extended reissue.
Thats why it was actually released as "The Version You've Never Seen" rather than a true directors cut.
On the original dvd release there was a deleted scenes section with commentary from Friedkin and Blatty saying why certain scenes were taken out.
Without checking I can't be 100% sure,but I believe Friedkin did not want the "spider walk" scene in the movie at all,which is why it was never completed until over 25 years later.
TVYNS dvd is also missing the superb 75 minute documentary on the making of the movie.
Track the original down if you can

Saw it when i was 7. probably not a good idea at the time, due to the crucifixion scene and the head spin, left me asking my parents some questions.

Well bearing in mind that the Exorcist was made in the early 70's, I think it's aged remarkably well.
Some of the lines are a bit corny. But i remember going to see it on the Big Screen in the late 1990's (when it was re-released). The cinema was packed, and the audience were soon laughing at the outdated dialogue.
But believe me, when the movie got going, and the exorcism began in earnest, you could hear a pin drop in that theatre. The tension was palpable.
It takes a very good movie to have that effect, even today.
