Just wondering what peoples views were of this film, did it scary you.

It shit me up and i've never watched it all the way til the end cos of the items placed in front of my eyes :D

The voice, The Face!!!! i still see it now.

My parents watched it when it first shown in the early 70's, people were running out of the cinema and trying to take their own lifes.

I've asked people what they think and they say they found it funny and wasn't even disturbed by Ragans Face and the fact that is was kind of based of a true story. Then again i've spoke to other people who say they had nightmares for weeks after watching it.

What do you think.

well i saw it on channel4 when they showed it and i have to say i found it mildy amusing :D To be honest for me the effects were a bit pants and some of the lines *Your mother s**ks c**ks in hell* just made me laugh :D

I thought that line was hilarious too, bit I very much doubt if that was the intention.
Have the film on DVD and found it enjoyable. I thought that the special effects were very good considering that it was made nearly 30 years ago. I didn't find the film overly scary or shocking though. This probably has quite a lot to do with tthe fact that I am an athiest, so saw it as nothing more than a story and also that I had heard so much hype about how scary it was, that it was bound to dissapoint.

I saw the Excorcist for the first time on Oct 31 1996 at the NFT, it was good to see it on the big screen but I have to say it didn't do much for me either, a good movie but not the scary thing that everybody had been on about. Perhaps its impact has diminished over the years, after all I remember seeing the David Warner losing his head scene in the Omen back in '76 and thought it was terrific, but revisiting it a few years back it didn't seem quite as good as when I first remembered it!

I remember when i saw this in the late seventies, i was only in my teens and i slept with the light on for weeks, saw it again recently and it didnt have the same effect :o

well I have the digitally remastered version, and I didnt find it even slightly scary, even though I'm normally easily scared and get freaked out about stuff like the devil.
It was very funny actually, the special effects were laughable, I guess thats what we'll think about 'modern day' films in years to come. And I didnt think there were many action/scary bits in it for a horror film.

30 years ago it was scary enough for people to leave the Cinemas. I do laugh at it now, but when I first saw it when I was fifteen it didn't have scare the shit out of me.

I think the only shocking thing about it was the "**** Me, **** Me" part of the film where the girl is stabbing herself with the cross. The rest of it was fine. The only problem is that i have seen it recently on DVD and i had seen Scary Movie 2 before The Exorcist - so when i see a part of The Excorcist all i think of is the piss take of Scary Movie 2
