The Exact Same Clothes Every Day!!!

It's worth pointing out that the first season still kind of followed the one outfit rule. Kim had the green top, blue pants look for school and whatnot, then her iconic mission outfit for, well, missions, and that was pretty much it (except in the episode Pain King vs. Cleopatra, but the clothes were just different colors). Same for Ron as well: red short sleeve shirt over black long sleeve shirt and cargo pants for normal, then mission clothes. Not until season 2 did we actually dig farther into our main characters' wardrobe.

I don't know if this is a good example but in "Cyberchase" when Jackie was trapped on the tower she told Hacker that she wanted a clean outfit, preferably one that was yellow and the shirt she always wears is yellow.

Then when Hacker gave her an outfit, it was an outfit identical to the one he always wears.

You know, I mentioned that line in the Darkwing Duck "Twitching Channels" episode, and I must wonder... Could there have been a special reason for them asking if Launchpad always wore the same clothes? Because pretty much every regular character on the show had one regular outfit each (Darkwing had two, his Darkwing Duck outfit and his Drake Mallard clothing).

I guess it would have been one thing if Launchpad was always seen in his regular clothing, because it is common to see cartoon characters in other outfits besides their regular ones. But Launchpad was seen in other outfits, on both DuckTales and Darkwing Duck. On DuckTales he was often seen in his Junior Chipmunk scoutmaster uniform, in Launchpad's Civil War he wore a civil war outfit, in Hero for Hire he was seen in both superhero clothing and a robe, in Double-O-Duck he was disguised as a secret agent (and I think he wore multiple outfits in that episode). While on Darkwing Duck he dressed as Darkwing on a few occasions, I recall seeing him in swimming gear in one episode, wore a number of costumes in Hush, Hush, Sweet Chartalan, and wore a suit in Star-Crossed Circuits.

They could have easily asked if all characters wore the same outfit or if their clothes all looked the same.

They had Bonnie make an in-joke about it in one of the early episodes. I think it was something like 'what do you know about style Kim? You like, wear the same outfit everyday!"

Forget where I saw it, but one of the later KP seasons was advertised as having her in more clothes. In general, veering into different outfits means more potential for animation errors.

I think the OP of this thread meant to point out examples of when characters in animation acknowledge the fact that they only wear one outfit.

Like in Scooby Doo on Zombie Island, when Shaggy opens up his closet to see a ton of the same green shirts and brown pants. XD

As for outfits changing, I know in X-men: Evolution most of the characters had a default outfit, but I remember they frequently wore different clothes from episode to episode, particularly after the first season.

In Avatar: The Last Airbender, they all stole new clothes when they got to the Fire Nation, and wore those for several episodes afterwards.

I gotta say, referencing as told by ginger, the whole "outfit" thing is one of the reasons i loved that show. This show actually portrayed characters, not only wearing different outfits from day to day, but also at different times of the day during the episodes, like you or i would do. That alone gave a slant of realism to the show that is very rarely seen in animation.

On another note, Beavis and Butthead do wear different t-shirts. Its very rare but it happens.

Also referencing Scooby Doo on zombie island, It's interesting to note that this is the first time we see the rest of the gang wearing different outfits than normal. We also see in another movie (scooby doo and the cyber chase) Computer clones of the gang. To differentiate them, Fred and Co wore their old outfits. But Scooby Doo and shaggy wore an alternate version. Shaggy had a red shirt and i believe brown pants, with scooby doo wearing a different colored collar.

I think every popular comics and cartoons feature characters with the same outfits, mostly because this is more easy to identifiate for kids.

I don't have a problem with keep the same clothes in each episode but as long it don't during it 10-15 years with the same outfits over and over again. (Another reason why i can't watch The Simpsons anymore!) The TV Pokemon peoples can vaunted to varied clothes in some seasons even if the developpement is very long and narrow.

When i draw my own characters, i try sometimes to make different outfits if it can work properly to their identity. Just keep the same clothes over again is draw by formula, but change clothes everytime is a abuse sign and can alas missing the point what we have fun to draw and create at the same time. (Mostly as stuffs like the Lou comic and Totally Spies when the mains characters wears different outfits in almost each episodes/pages.)

I can understand some artists (Morris, Uderzo or Roba) why they want to keep the same outfits to their main characters. Not because they hate variety, but i think it makes them much comfortable, more familiar, the reason why some characters succeed to survive more than the others.

It's possible they asked about Launchpad because he wears the exact same thing when he's Darkwing's sidekick as he does when he hangs around Drake Mallard. It's amazing how no one on the show ever caught on.

Yeah, lately I've been wondering if the other characters acknowledge the fact that Launchpad is Darkwing's sidekick. The bad guys don't seem to acknowledge him as a sidekick much, and it seems the Muddlefoots never ask him what it's like being Darkwing Duck's sidekick.

It's especially interesting because in "A Duck by Another Name" Launchpad gets misidentified as Darkwing Duck's true identity, and the public never quite questions the fact that Launchpad could be both Darkwing Duck and Darkwing's sidekick. Though when he's identified by a reporter the reporter obviously knows who he is.

I think this thread was made for discussing characters who allude or make references to the fact that they wear the same clothes every day, not just pointing out that they do.

Another Simpsons example would be Homer trying to find Flanders by thinking like him - "I'm a big four-eyed lame-o and I wear the same stupid sweater every day and..."
