I wasn't originally going to post this because it had too many upsides to really be considered a rant, but it is a fucked up story so I figure I may as well post it anyway.
Yesterday around noon, I went to head down to the house of a friend of mine who lives in Mystic, CT(about 35 minutes from here). We went some places for a while, had a fun day, went back to her house, hung out for a little while more, then we decided to go out to a movie. Now, she lives behind a fish market and there's a little wooden barrier thing with pretty sturdy posts that separates her driveway from the store. Being as dark as it was and the dumbass I am, I backed right into the thing and the tire got bent and some of the body work was pretty bad on the back right side. Now, this raises some obvious problems. The most pressing being that I'm stuck out of state and I have to be at work in about six hours. I make a series of phone calls to my mom and my boss from work and things are settled on that front, I ended up staying the night at her house, so about the time that morning changes to afternoon, we get a tow truck and the guy drives me and my car up to Narragansett which is back here in Rhode Island. Obviously, that's a long drive, so the guy wanted to charge $150 which I didn't have a huge problem with, but that is kind of expensive. After realizing it was farther than he thought, he raised the price to $200. So I go to the ATM and it won't let me take out more than $100. So I pay him that much, but he's getting pissy at this point because he has to get back down to Connecticut. We go back to the auto body shop and see if they can spot us, the lady working the desk has no checks to write and there was really nothing to be done, my mom was going there to pick me up anyway, she has about $90 and I have another 10-spot in my wallet to finish it off with. Unfortunately, by the time she got there, over 20 minutes had passed and the tow truck driver was pissed off, he tried to charge us another 50 bucks for making him wait(even though nothing else could have been done, we exhausted all options) but my mom being the stand-up person she is, told him it wasn't going to be that way. Between the two of us, my mom and I only had $13 left. So anyway, I came back here and fell asleep from 3:30 in the afternoon until about 20 minutes before my alarm was going off for work. So I'm sitting here writing this waiting for my boss to call me back because he offered to pick me up yesterday, and I want to see if that offer is still good today. In any case, something has to be worked out because my car is undriveable and in the shop for I don't know how long.
As annoying as all this was though, it made me really think. I got to spend time with an awesome girl, her family was understanding of me(and also cool), my boss was understanding, my mom was understanding. The tow truck guy was a dick, but in the world you're going to have assholes who think with their wallets before their minds. If I've got that many understanding and good people in my life, that just goes to show you're living well! So overall, yes this was a good past couple days, but in some sense, I'm just glad it's all over...I'll be more glad when I get my car back however...
