The Event channel4 9pm friday

I thought it was really good.

The way the narrative was told was pretty inventive and as such it'll no doubt put off a lot of UK viewers, but personally I like to see narratives being experimented with and see how far they can be pushed. The Event certainly goes pretty extreme.

Has me hooked anyway.

"TV by numbers" doesn't necessarily make something bad. Many successful shows are built around a simple and repetitive concept. For example, nothing is more formulaic than 24 or CSI. But, as long as it's done well and is entertaining, it doesn't matter if it's not the most original thing ever.

I hope it is given a chance. If it is cancelled due to bad ratings then the only shows on US TV are going to be endless CSI spinoRAB, American Idol and Dancing with the Stars.

I read the novel that Flash Forward was based on and it could have been wrapped up in a two hour film.

This also has the look of one of those interminably dragged out U.S. sci-fi series that go on far longer than most people's interest like the X-Files and Lost so to quote Duncan Bannatyne "I'm Out".

No, they had a bomb threat and a message from the co-pilot that the pilot was out of control. In a post 9/11 environment, where you have an out of control plane, near the president, would you take a chance? No way.

Edit: plus there would have been a several mile air exclusion zone around the president, so any plane would have been treated as hostile when it neared. (NB and primary radar doesn't require transponders to be on).

The 'aliens' only jammed the fighter when it was too late to shoot the plane down and when the fighter was not in position to do anything. The fighter should have shot the plane down earlier.

Because there is no issue. If some viewers are prepared to pay more then why shouldn't they get a better service?

Unlike some sporting events there isn't a "crown jewels" list of imported US drama which has to be shown on Free To View TV. It's an open market where the highest bidder wins.

Agree, i couldn't follow it, i don't mind flash back/forwarRAB but they have to be done well, Too many started in the middle of another scene like someone changing the channel when you're watching something

So - let me try to sort out the characters - that's Vein Man, 1944 man, Heroic, Wrongly-Accused Man, Sick girlfriend, Nasty, long-haired Man, erm..... Scared Nurse.... any more?

I'm not clear why Buchanan (?) the pilot went along with the plot. A suicide mission does not seem much leverage. Once you are dead, why would the criminals (who have already) killed your wife) not kill your daughters? How would your daughters live their lives in the knowledge that you had killed 200 people, the President and many others at the crash site? Surely better to contact the via and hope they can resolve it?

Are we s
