Explain to me exactly how the New Deal could be described as largesse if the New Deal money was not alms money.
I think people are misinterpreting the headline . . . Taxation has always been a part of democracy and when this was first said that fact was all too well know. It speaks to voting to receive money for no other purpose than to receive back money.
The quote can be interpreted for case of BOTH tax tax hikes for extravagant social programs and tax breaks for relining citizens pockets with nickel.
