The End Credits on Films

I work in the film industry so believe i can help. Yes, it is to do with unions/contracts.
There are far more people who work on a film these days. CGI, latex artists, insurance companies, lawyers, etc so the credits have become longer.
It is satisfying to see your name on the credits and also enables people in the industry to keep up with the work you are doing.
 
I personally don't sit around and watch the credits roll on a film, got other things to be doing. And whilst all the people working behind the scenes may like to be acknowledged, is it really necessary?

I mean, have you ever bought a pint that came with information saying it was brewed by Paul, with help from Mary and Jim, with the office staff being Dave and Kate? For the most part, people don't want to know who was involved behind the scenes,they just want to see the film. The film crew get paid for doing a job (and do get some credit for it, in a small way), the rest of us don't get sh*t!
 
I personally think it's common courtesy to put their names up on screen at the end, I mean it does no one any harm, as most of you have said you rarely stick around for the credits *me included at times*, and besides everyone likes to be acknowledged for whatever ammount of work they did.
regardless of how many of you think they wouldn't give a shit, I think some would.
 
;1928626']I like the credit roll at the end of a film, there are times that I want to find out who played a certain part, or what a piece of music was, however the rest of the names are fairly meaningless to me, so most of the time, I won't sit through them.

I do dislike the practice of putting credits at the begining of a film, beyond the actors and possibly the director, I am not that interested, if I were then I would look out for them in the end credits. I can't remember wether it was Star Trek V or VI (it might have been both) but the opening titles took ages, listing almost everyone and his uncle. Same with the James Bond films, no wonder they always start with a bang, if you went straight into the opening titles you'd be asleep before the film proper had started.
 
Yes, I think a small opening title is ok, provided it doesn't go on for too long. Sometimes theyre good at setting tone, eg. Edward ScissorhanRAB and Danny Elfman's fantastic music, or Spider-man and the taster of his costume etc.
I know Catch Me if you Can got awarRAB for that opening, but I do tend to skip it now- it gets annoying!

Oh my God !!!! How do you ever cope ? It must be so annoying when you are strapped into your seat and forced to watch these credits. What an injustice.

Oooooooh, hello - no one makes you watch them - if you are not interested get up and go. Enjoy the film and then leave - it is allowed you know.

Good grief - it doesn't hurt anyone so why get in a stew over it.
 
Precisely, but then it also annoys me when cinema cleaners wait and try and usher you out before the credits have finished rolling. I'd paid for my seat, afterall.
