The "emo" label

I had never come across the term "emo" outside of the internet. If anyone could be classed as emo in my area, they'd be taken the piss out of left, right and centre.

"Boo hoo. Go grow some fucking balls," would be one of the nicer comments most likely directed at an obvious subject. But then again, prejudice is common 'round here.

Until I meet a genuine emo, I'll remain indifferent. I honestly don't really give a fuck. Be who you want, just don't rub it in my face.

I never really thought about it as being lazy, but now that i think about it in more debt, it actually makes sense. Instead of knowing people better, they insted to throw around labels such as emo, because they dont care to know the person better. It also explains why I hate the word emo and all labels, because I like to get to know a person well before judging them. And I too get very depressed from time to time, but I dont label myself emo, listen to the music, or dress that way because I think to make yourself an "individual" by showing that your constantlly depressed and is upset at your life, is just giving a bad image to those who feel deppresed and dont care to act this way.

Well, im not completelly new, I had an old account here about a year or so ago so I am some what familiar with the site :) .

OK, so on a serious note. Someone who is emo (emotional) is just very expressive. Music in the 1980s was very "emo". The Smiths singer is emo. The cures singer is Emo. The Echo and the Bunny singer is very Emo.

Emo College Wah Wah music. I like it. I like sitting in a room with candles and listen to it. It makes me thing how fucked up the world is.

If someone calls you Emo, just make Emu sounds as if you miss understood them.

Completely agree with you on this one. When I hear someone talk about emo music it reminds of the music I loved growing up. It certainly doesn't remind me of the degenerate piss-ants of society that are "too complex" or too shy to live an actual meaningful life.
The label itself should be just that and should simply define an alternative take on music.

If it were up to me I'd wipe all of the "Emo's" and the "emo posers" and the emo genre of music off the planet. But it's not up to me, (Driung dinn din din, dun dun dingun"

It's funny that everyone's bitching about this. There have always been "Emo" kids and there always will be. The only thing that's changed it that right now it's popular to be emo.

But just like there have always been "Jocks" "Nerds" "Geeks" "Preps" "Posers and "Druggies" there have always been emo kids and the "Goth" kids. Always have been always will be. It's just that right now there's a label for them.

And if you think about it, it's all the anger and hatred that feeds them in the first place. If you say "I HATE EMOS!" you're just feeding their seld agrandizing thoughts of "Everyone hates me!"
