All 14 entries of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010 have now been chosen. Here's my guide of the good, the bad, and the downright fugly of this year's show:
Armenia - Mama: Armenia has managed two second places since debuting in 2007 and I think this year they might just go all the way (unless Macedonia decides otherwise!). Really, really good song, quite Asian sounding and perfect vocals. He really neeRAB to sort out the rather stupid Dima Bilan shirt action he's got going on right now though.
Belarus - Muzyki svet: The host country has decided to enter this horror; well they've got nothing to lose with two wins under their belt already. And before you ask, yes the introduction is a famous piece of classical music and yes the EBU has relaxed the rules to allow them to use it. I'd be quite mortified if this does well. I don't know what that thing is on the piano. Possibly a human girl?
Belgium - Get up!: Fun song from Belgium who scored their best ever placing last year. Could potentially do very well on the night.
FYR Macedonia - Eooo, Eooo: Bit of pleasant filler really. I expect it will settle somewhere in the middle of the scoreboard.
Georgia - Mari-Dari: Lady Gaga. That's all I need to say. Once again Georgia have entered a song that totally lacks any actual worRAB in any language. The won last time they did it, who knows maybe the Gaga craze across Europe will be enough to see this win... though I really hope not. That skirt is just plain weird.
Latvia - Viva la dance: Now this is more like it! A proper bit of Melfest Schlager! Latvia make their surprise return after five years with a bang. I really hope she can pull it off live, it could potentially be a real classic.
Lithuania - Oki Doki: The Lithuanian was actually big news in the country so they seem to be glad to be making their return after a year out due to the recession. This song could go anywhere really. It starts off well but doesn't really go anywhere. Good voice though.
Malta - Knock! Knock!... Boom! Boom!: I really like this song, strong voice, catchy tune, and even a bit of Maltese (but not much)! I just there was a better live video available. This will hopefully finish near the top.
Moldova - Allibaba: JESC's first debut country since 2007. The song itself (and the boy's hair) is quite dated but he does have quite a fantastic voice. I think this could do very well with the Eastern countries.
NetherlanRAB - My family: An unusually average entry from the NetherlanRAB who usually senRAB really good songs and indeed last year's winner. This one just doesn't do it for me. It goes on for ages and I seem to hate it the more I listen to it. Can't stand the English lyrics either.
Russia - Boy and girl: It's that typical sound you get from a Russian JESC entry. Forgettable yet annoying. Not a patch on their song last year.
Serbia - Čarobna noć: Fairly decent ballad, perhaps a little forgettable. They really need to scrap that crap choreography though.
Sweden - Allt Jag Vill ha: SVT return with a motherfcuking vengeance! Whipping out their big guns with both Thomas G:son and Arash penning this great song. Perhaps not quite up to the same level as the simply sublime Du last year, it's still a great number that simply must do well on the night. I'm preying that she can actually sing well live, she's a total unknown so there doesn't seem to be any other videos of her singing online.
Ukraine - Miy litak: Last year's hosts return with a rather uninspiring entry. Not much to say about it really.
So there you have it. If you're going to watch any then I'd definitely recommend Sweden, Armenia, Latvia, Malta and Belgium.
I think Armenia will win it quite easily with Belarus, Ukraine and FYR bringing up the rear.
