The DS Eurovision Thread (Part 8)

Ok at the risk of sounding like Jo I have another question! :D

Can we pick a song that was performed at the Eurovision opening or interval the following year by the winner?

Another one off to university, it makes you proud.;) Don't forget to have fun Mouldy.

There's only 1 male singer in the competition which confirms this forums propensity for the female fronted schlager.

There are so many good songs to pick from that it makes you proud to be Swedish although I thought someone might have been patriotic and picked our heroine Katrina.

Chickens, I was hoping you might have gone for LaGaylia and this outstanding performance.

The wonderful schlagerboys have advised the following regarding Danske MGP

"Danish TV have announced that, following the closing date yesterday, they have received 663 entries for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2011. According to Denmark Exclusive a jury will pick 6 of these and then DR will invite another 4 wildcarRAB to join the final next year.

Some of the songwriters include the bloke who wrote "Drama Queen" and just about the only ballad we've had a soft spot for in recent years, "Until We're Satisfied" (the one where Kendra Lou clambers up on the piano halfway through the song). Christina Schilling, who was part of the team behind "Someday" (and also the Irish entry in 2009, but we'll forgive her for that...), has submitted an entry. And it looks like Lord Thomas of G:Son might have shoved in a schlager stompathon or two.

Hurrah for Denmark!"

I would urge you all however to also think about how the song would be performed on an ESC stage - no need to go into technicalities of pyros and wind machines - but just to be aware that it would need to translate onto the big stage

For that reason, I discounted this cracking tune, I couldn't decide how it would be performed on the night other than a straightforward run through, it definitely needed a mosh pit, and I don't think they are allowed :o

The top song has just been overtaken! I'm going to a party tonight so not only am I going to miss the x factor... but may miss the last of the votes coming in. Any votes however will be added tomorrow when I sober and not tonight when I'll probably be a bit drunky :)

There are several on this list which I won't listen to again, thank you very much :p and I'm pleased to see the one I was hoping would be there so I can give it the full weight of my 12 points.

:D at "whoever" picked My Time ;)

Was it Las Ketchup about whom Terry Wogan said "Spain just don't care anymore"?

I'm a sucker for yodelling so that's a winner or loser.

Tee hee!
If we are promoting our own songs, heres mine in the NF...

At 0.45 and several times thereafter, there is a nice shot of the musical conductor dancing along with the artistes...

Its a bit of a Croatian lovefest, this comp. Gosh, no Molitva, and no Tose Proeski.

And I only got my third choice...

Considering all the love for Dannii... maybe I need to rethink her exclusion! If we're having 4 contests she is definately a contender! Maybe we could have 5 contests? ;) Lol or maybe we should just keep doing this every week until the on season starts again! :D

With regarRAB to finals... maybe we could run 2 at once... because that way it gets them out of the way in one week and they're going to be songs we've already listened to a lot... and personally I'm not much looking forward to another week of rubbish Eurovision songs lol! Especially the one's I've already heard 10 times over! Anyway... just thinking aloud :)

Just sent in my entry, hopefully this one shouldn't flop, although I was genuinely stuck over what song to pick, it was actually between two of my favourite songs which I have on my iPod and my own little NF was the equivalent of Alcazar vs Anna Cyzon in a Super Final, I should have got Father Abraham to flip a coin for me!

I've just voted and it was mighty difficult - I could only narrow it down to 14 initially, but there were some on there that I was fine with the artists, if only it was another song!

I think this has been the toughest vote yet

Mine too - I love the computer game sounding-ness of it as well as the video with Ruslana doing her semi feral girl thing!

Thank you! I remember loving her in the final in 2007 - hers is an entry I go back to a lot. 9th place was definitely too low. I've seen her described as "the Hungarian Janis Joplin" but I like to think of her as Europe's Martha Wainwright - her voice is powerful and there is anger there but there's also a tender fragility too which makes her music so appealing. The track I chose was an instant "yes" for me - I love the build up and that killer chorus.

Oh the mental images

I had a listen to his EV entry and I didn't mind it too much but I took to Guilty straight away. Definitely a keeper.

I love the Uncle analogy, although I do like ABBA and Celine! I was at an impressionable age when Celine was at her prime!
