BBAnne, we are hearing ESC songs everywhere now in our lives. I was in a shopping centre at the weekend and heard Jade Ewn 2009 entry. Still don't like it. As for Eres tu, it would be brilliant even in pan pipe version!
Quick update on the 'Best of the Balkans' contest. I've recieve a lot of entries in under 24 hours which is good. Here are the FM's with confirmed entries;
And we thought Terry was bad in announcing the wrong winner. In Australlia's Next Top Model they did the same but only realised after the 'winners' speech
Well firstly I wonder who has chosen headlines??? And secondly I'm very surprised not to see something in there... can't say too much without giving anything away but come on... it's like the biggest MF travesty of the modern age! Looking forward to listening to all these tonight anyway!
For some reason, N-Dubz was the mainstream Number 1 act that came to mind for me but then I had a horrific image of them doing well at ESC - there's been some crimes committed against music over the years but nothing on that scale
I'd pick Moldova. Every year, I hate their entries and yet every year they get enough Ex-USSR support to just qualify for the final. I don't like Romania much either, and their douze points exchange every year really bugs me.
Yes! Or maybe mid table. I'm balancing out hoping for the best and expecting the worst. Does anyone think that their positioning in this contest will affect the choosing of their next artist?
The 9th, 8th and 7th placed songs all tied on the same number points. I've ranked them in true eurovision style based on how many 12's, 10's, 8's etc. each song recieved.
A few weeks back I did think of proposing a competition to find the best (of that much maligned act) "The Girl Group" to have competed in Eurovision. My definition of a girl group is 3 or more singers who share vocals so that rules out those who call themselves a group but are basically a lead with backing singers like Vanilla Ninja or Urban Symphony.
Since 1970, when groups were first permitted there have been only 19 "girl groups" so a nice number for a competition but the problem is that the quality is so dire that there was no point and this is confirmed by the fact that 4 of them have been nominated for this worst entries competition.
Another reason for not doing the competition was that in my opinion, the only outstanding performance might not win. They were the very first girl group in Eurovision. It never got better than this.
