The downfall of mth

mth

It sounds like you are suffering from depression. I urge you to see your doctor who can refer you as necessary.

there is also a possibility that there is a physical reason for this, again I would urge you to see your doctor. Sometimes a thyroid problem can cause some very strange reactions like this.

mth, i read your thread and you identified your symptoms exactly as i would describe them. This shows not only your narcissistic nature but also a high level of intelligence and/or a keen interest in the subject of pyschology.

You are able to identify your faults, but as you stated you feel no compulsion to change them from those surrounding you in your local environment, however the fact that you wrote this and the way in which you wrote some parts of it show's a desire to change, not however to the person that you used to be. This would indicate that you are going through a period of trying to find yourself and your place in the world spiritually.

It would be all to easy for someone on-line to tell you exactly what you should do but this would be pointless to you, you need to make the first step and see a counsellor/therapist/doctor about this, you need to be proactive about it and that can't be done through a computer screen.

I will suggest however researching a little bit into toaism, you will find it very interesting reading and possibly a source of relief for you, helped me.

I'm with Diamond here. This is a deep depression. There is no indication of what might have brought it on, but you do need to see a Doctor asap. It could be as simple as a vitamin deficiancy. It could also be something quite serious. You need to find out and get help.

Please keep us posted, I'm very concerned.

Wow, mth. I went through this exact thing shortly after graduating college. Actually it started toward the end. Reading your post was like re-living that time. I saw my normal doctor (not a therapist) and he suggested Prozac. I didn't even give it 2 weeks before I flushed them, yes and this was before Ally McBeal did in her episode. Anyway, I just knew I could pull through this on my own and hated the idea of having to rely on meds. I was right, I just had to straighten out my life, and it worked. The problem was it took me all of no less than 6 YEARS to accomplish this. I now have lost touch with all of my old friends and feel too weird now about trying to reconnect with them.

Please, realize that depression happens to most people, even highly evolved creatures such as yourself. It's nothing more than a chemical imbalance in the brain where you're just not producing seratonin effectively. That's all the more well-known anti-depressants do. Also keep in mind, like 50% of the friggin population (in countries like the U.S. and the U.K and probably most of Europe for that matter) is on some form of anti-depressant. In today's world, it just becomes harder and harder to deal with stress.

I think that the others are right. I do think this could have been brought on by a bit of self-discovery and questioning your own life and possibly dealing with the prospect of change. At any rate, setting your levels back to normal could be the solution. It's best to talk to your doctor of course as only he can see you in person, and find out more than anyone over the net could even come close to doing.

Anyway, hang in there and keep us "posted".

I also had a feeling about not needing friends when I was younger. All I have to say is just hang in there, you might decide to procrastinate with some of the advice we give you on here, but at least take them in small steps. Keep us posted man.

mth, I know where you're coming from. I had the same problem a lil' while ago. I would suggest you follow ehwhat?'s advice and pick up on some form of Buddhism. Also, get off your ass and go help yourself cause you're the only person who can get help for yourself. Got it?

mth, i agree with the others, that it sounds just like a real deep depression. If i where you i would most defenitly see a doctor. Deep depression is not just mental illness, but meanly physical. It's a biolaire disfunction of the brain. (the neurons in your brain don't function the way they suppose to) For years men thought that a shrink could do the trick, but since quite some years now, people acknowlegde it to be a real illness.

The doctor will subscribe some medicen, and give you a few guidelines for your live. And yes, as a support (cause it will help) he will advice you to see a shrink.

To put it down to you the hard way: many people try to beat it on their own. Don't let the successtory's fool you, those people didn't have a deep depression but where just depressed (which can be bad, I agree, but is purely mental).
With deep depression the shit is that you can't just 'beat it' yourself. You will need help. At first it might look you're doing better, but if it really is a deep depression, you will slide back whitin 6 months. It's a common thing with deep depression to have periods that things look better.
Do yourself a great favor, go see a doctor and don't let yourself get send away with a: 'id'll all be ok, just take a rest" cause that's worthless. Insist on good help and diagnose!

Best of luck to you!

:boxer:

I'm not sure if you are from the states or not, but here, you more than likely won't be referred directly to a psychiatrist or psychologist. General practictioners have the authority to prescribe mild anti-depressants such as Prozac, Zoloft, etc and others that are the lower level of the scope of meds. IF that doesn't help after a few weeks, then they might refer to you to a psychologist or psychiatrist, but I am pretty sure, they would first up the dosage or elevate you to a stronger med first.
