The Dooms Day Scenario: Did it already happen?

There's been some interesting threads the last month which have events that took place in the "near future". Said events would have taken place already in today's world.

What series come to your mind that have a major, pivotal event in it that in the real world, that date has already passed or soon will?

I think the most obvious one that comes to mind is Thundarr the Barbarian.

In 1994, Armageddon occurred with a passing meteorite causing planetary destruction. 1000 years later (2994) the world appears to have revived.

According to DC Comics, we supposedly experienced a near Apocalypse last year.

There was also Evangelion when the "second impact" occured around 2000.
