Has anyone seen...... dare I say it???? ..... THE DISH!!!
Its this really bad film with Sam Neil about the airing of the moon airing landing... The call it a comedy! But there isn't one joke in it... All the TV mags seem to give it 5 stars
Much of the joy is seeing such a small, quiet backwater in the middle of nowhere become SO important to NASA...and it also paints a picture of a more innocent, quiet era - one that was, quite probably, ushered out with the advent of the moon landings/arms race and cold war era.
I really enjoyed it - sits on my shelf next to Apollo 13 and The Right Stuff.
I enjoyed it. Real characters, loved the wrong anthem bit, my wife's the lemon, playing cricket in the dish, lose of power at crucial time, etc. Based on real events. What do you want - car chases, swearing, sex, *all* the time!!!
Ah, so to be a comedy you need to have obvious jokes, is that what you're saying? Not all comedy is so in your face, you know. Subtle humour can be even more effective, imo.
The Dish is a perfectly pitched piece of film. It's got no pretensions about what it is, unlike many other films which think they are better than they really are.
Well I've only seen it once, on a Virgin Flight back from Canada , it may have been jetlag and may have been cut, but I thought it was rather good , nice gentle old style comedy and good characterisations
