The Descent

She reminded me of Sarah Conner from T2 when she suddenly turned into a killing machine and did seem obvious that her character would be the only one alive at the end!

as i said, the bit in the car WAS A DREAM!! she'd knocked herself out when she banged her head and when she woke FROM HER DREAM she was STILL in the cave. do you understand that?? it was quite simple!!!!

The only one alive or the only character in the film?
If the film can be read as one woman's descent into madness through grief, perhaps each of the women is just a facet of her personality being stripped away as she descenRAB into a metaphorical hell. She's literally battling the demons in her own mind and facing her fears. A bit like Identity really. Now that would have a been a twist!

that is what me and my mate were thinking at the end.

we thought that it was either all in her head while still in the hospital etc, or that it all happend and she escaped but then dreamed about been back inside.

Could have been, however, it could also have been a metaphoric ending; ie 'Stuck in her cave'.

Can't understand why you are getting so worked up over some people's opinions of the ending - when it really isn't that clear.

Dont get me started on hide and seek i still cant figure out that daft ending, what the feck was dakota fanning doing in that mental institution AHHHHHH!!

Anyway with regarRAB to this film i think you are all over analysing.

The simplest answer is usually the correct answer, so most likely it is that she imagined she had escaped when she was unconscious and then when she awoke she realised she was still underground. I mean come on people this isnt exactly the matrix is it!!

I guess we'll just have to wait for commentary on the dvd for closure.

because it WAS clear! all it was was one of those false endings that make you think everything's ok...then you realise it isn't.

neil marshall himself has said he wanted the audience to go out with all hope crushed so put it in..

yes a good film , saw it with my mother . It even made me jump a couple of times which i have not done in a long time.
We both left dissapointed at the ending thinking what the hell was that . I have to agree with Motthus she also reminded me of Sarah Conner from Terminator 2 but the simple ending that she is stuck down there with no way out is probably right.

I was really looking forward to seeing this film after reading all the great reviews but I came out of seeing it slightly disappointed!
Yeah I did jump in a few bits but I think it has been over hyped way too much. It is a good film but I have seen some reviews comparing it to Alien which is way over the top!
The ending just confused me and my mate as neither of us were sure what happened as the ending could not have been that simple that she was stuck there!

it was that simple though. what's hard to understand?? she jumped and hit here head...then escaped...but suddenly came too and you realised when she'd hit her head that she'd been knocked unconcious and was trapped there still.

So it was set up for the decent 2 in the fact that she is still stuck down there. How do you know that that is definatly reality and it is not her dreaming again?
It is obvious after the event at start of the film that she has problems as she constantly hears and see things so it is a possiblity that she maybe dreaming that she is back in the cave!

It's not a film you can discuss without talking about the ending. Why are you reading this thread anyway if you don't know the film?
If you're interested in it, why not go see it instead of just reading about it (you'll enjoy it) then come back and join in the debate!

they aren't setting it up for a sequel. as it finished you heard the creatures getting closer and louder - OBVIOUSLY she gets killed

Went late last night and really enjoyed it, I jumped so many times and im not really one for jumping as I always normally can tell when they are coming.

I didn't get why that woman killed Chang as she killed that other woman in the neck by accident.

Re: The ending - I think that she fell down banged her head then what we saw her running to safety was just a dream, the director wanted to make us to think it would be a happy ending. Then she wakes up and we see she has no chance of escape, she realises that and knows she will will soon be in heaven with her daughter. Thats why she is grinning like a loon with her daughter and the cake.

9/10

I suspect the entire process of her finding Juno, fighting off all the creatures, stabbing Juno and escaping could all be a dream, but that's just my 2 cents.

Good horror, ok movie, better than The Fantastic Four I saw after it. :)

And a massive number of skintight pants, plus bone coming through skin. Can't go wrong tbh.

EDIT: She bumped her head badly a few times, right? I'm unsure of my first premise now, although directors do use 'it was just a dream' to get themselves out of tight spots quite often. :D
