The Descent

Well no actually I wouldn't class anyone who gave up after 40 mins as a moron as I was referring to 'not giving the film a fair chance' to mean someone giving up after 5 mins which is what someone said which started this whole bit of the thread. That's what I meant in my earlier post when i said 'which was the original poster's point.' Forty minutes is plenty to give a film a fair chance. So there....

And i've seen some great films where the first five minutes have been crap but then persevered and the film has improved. That's what i mean by giving a film a fair chance, the fact that some films don't get better didn't come into it.

It's an average horror flick. Not worth a purchase but maybe worth a rent.

To be quite honest I lost track of who was who seeing as they got so many similar looking actresses. I didn't think much of the ending.

I can totally see your point, and i guess people like certain types of character while others just dont warm to them.

I liked all of them to a certain extent, and i really liked Beth and that lady from The Book Group.

C'mon, I persevered through 2 hours of Sex and the City before calling it quits.

People who quit a movie 45 minutes in are the same idiots who think From Dusk Til Dawn is boring, Rocky Balboa has no boxing and Full Metal Jacket is set in America.

I watched this the other night and was hoping it'd be good as I do love my horror.
I didn't think it was excellent, but I did really enjoy it. I'm terrified of the idea of caving/potholing anyway, so the claustrophobia aspect of the film really got to me.
As for the rest, it did a good job of freaking me out. I even had a bad dream! :o :D

I jumped a few times and even screamed out loud at one point.
I'd give this film 8/10. :)

^ Woah! I used to be such a stroppy and obnoxious poster! How embarrassing......:o

This is a good point though, but I would now actually agree that people have every right to give up on a film after 5, 10 or 45 mins if they aren't enjoying it lol. But yeah if you don't persevere sometimes you really do miss out and can't really give as informed an opinion as those who have seen the entire movie.

Like this film Shattered, its absolutely rubbish, but its twist is just so  (or it was about 10 years ago when I saw it) that it practically makes the whole film worth the watch. But its in the last 10 minutes.

I haven't seen it yet, but my daughter said it's really dark and scarey.

Incidentally, can anyone remember a game called Descent (around the Win 95/98 era)?

This game was real spooky with creatures that chased you down tunnels etc. I thought it was based in some underground tunnel, but my son said it was based on a spaceship. The sounRAB in the game were scarey too.

Just wondered if the game and film are based on the same theme.

I think the film is more similar to the book though it is not based on it. The game was simply a shoot em up where you fly a spacecraft and shoot monsters.
